Are NBA Arena DJs Trying to Troll Visiting Teams During Player Introductions?
Was Full House a bad show? Do people think being equated with Hulk Hogan is an insult?
I only ask because two NBA arenas have used music associated with these entities to "troll" visiting teams during their player introductions, and as far as I can tell, both instances have backfired famously.
Deadspin's Barry Petchesky and All Ball's Lang Whitaker noted this week that both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings utilized less-than-traditional soundtracks to introduce players from visiting teams.
The Kings struck first, blasting the theme song from Full House as the Golden State Warriors starting lineup was announced Wednesday night.
The trolling, as it were, is that the Warriors are based in the Bay Area, where Full House's characters lived. Unfortunately for the Kings, Full House was an awesome show, and the Warriors won the game 95-77.
Following up on this trend were the Cleveland Cavaliers disc jockeys, who played the theme song for '90s wrestling stable nWo while introducing the New York Knicks on Thursday night.
Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, nWo was also awesome, and the Cavaliers lost the game 95-90.
So as far as can be told, musical "trolling" isn't the way to go in the NBA. Golden State would've probably beaten the Kings regardless of soundtrack, but I have no doubt the Knicks received some nWo voodoo magic from their weird theme music.
Don't be a musical troll, basketball DJs. It will backfire.
Just let the announcer introduce the visitors with the least enthusiasm possible and cue up the organ music.
