8 Celebrities Who We'd Love to Play a Round of Golf With

Ben AlberstadtOct 23, 2014

Which celebrities would you most like to play golf with? Thinking about the question, it's usually actors and actresses who are entertaining onscreen and seem to continue to be congenial after the cameras stop rolling.

For the most part, we'd like to play with celebrities who are capable on the golf course (except for Charles Barkley) and those who are primarily comedic actors, because, hey, golf should be fun.

Click through to our breakdown of eight celebrities we'd like to tee it up with.

Sean Connery

1 of 8

If you were invited to join legendary Scottish actor Sean Connery's foursome, would you say no? Connery has been a thick-accented man's man in the world of film since the 1960s.

Connery plays to a 20-25 handicap, but he did take down Goldfinger as James Bond in Goldfinger, so that's a plus (check out the whole scene above).

Plus, Connery is from the home of golf, so he's got that going for him.

Bill Murray

2 of 8

The clown prince of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Bill Murray is always good for a laugh. How could he not liven up your foursome? Playing golf with the Caddyshack star would never be dull, to say the least.

And Murray's golf game is no joke: He's a single-digit handicap. He's played all over the world, and his experience at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am makes him one of the most capable celebrities on this list. Really.

Larry David

3 of 8

Co-creator of Seinfeld, Larry David is a relatively avid golfer. Several episodes of his show, Curb Your Enthusiasm revolve around the game.

David reportedly plays to about a 20 handicap. So while he's not in any danger of winning the scratch division of his club championship, he's not totally clueless.

David is one of the most absurd and entertaining figures in recent television history. Trifling silliness would almost certainly follow your foursome if Mr. David was in the group. And you could always ask him about the backstory to your favorite episode of Seinfeld.

Samuel L. Jackson

4 of 8

Samuel L. Jackson likes golf so much that he has a "golf clause" built into his movie contracts.

"They have to let me play at least twice a week," he explained to CNN's Living Golf. "Generally they either move me onto a golf course or I join a club so I can play there."

Jackson plays to about a seven handicap, so the Snakes on a Plane star is a decent swinger of the golf club.

A dedicated golfer, if Jackson brings anything resembling the intensity and the enthusiasm he displays onscreen to the golf course, he'd make a great playing partner and would have a colorful story or two to entertain the foursome.

Mark Wahlberg

5 of 8

Mark Wahlberg plays with an eight handicap.

The star of Boogie Nights and The Departed seems like a genuinely cool dude. And as a single-digit handicap, he does pretty well for himself on the golf course.

As Wahlberg told Craig Bestrom of Golf Digest: "I'm...playing golf twice a week and hitting balls seven days a week." Thus, the Boston native is as dedicated to refining his swing as he is his acting chops and his physical fitness.

The hard-man actor is a serious golfer who would be a great addition to a group of serious, low-handicap golfers.

Just don't call him Marky Mark.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

6 of 8

It's widely known that Michael Douglas enjoys spending time on the links. What may be less widely known is that his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, also likes to tee it up. The Welsh actress plays off a 24 handicap.

The 45-year-old has starred in films such as Entrapment and Traffic and has been a fixture on the silver screen for the past two decades.

If you need a twosome for a couples Scotch scramble, Zeta-Jones and Douglas would make a great pair. They've been married since 2000, so they're likely to have decent rapport on the course, and they're both dynamic individuals.

Jack Nicholson

7 of 8

Legendary actor Jack Nicholson plays to about a 10 or 15 handicap, and he'd have to make a hell of a playing partner.

The star of Chinatown is one of the coolest dudes in Hollywood. If the amount of fun he seems to be having at the Los Angeles Lakers games he routinely attends are any indication, Nicholson would be a blast.

"

Between films, the King of Hollywood becomes the Jack of Clubs, a gleeful golfer whose select few friends needle him almost as much as he needles them. A member at Bel-Air and Lakeside golf clubs, he is famously relaxed about the rules. He might take a mulligan or three, but the rule-bending isn't just for his benefit. "You tried like hell there, pal," he'll tell a bogey-scraping buddy. "I'm giving you a par."

"

Charles Barkley

8 of 8

What can you really say about golfing with Charles Barkley? He's not going to help your team in a scramble, as he's, well, terrible. The former NBA star would, however, be endlessly entertaining.

With a golf swing that looks like a seizure and a mouth out of which anything can fly, teeing it up with Sir Charles would be unforgettable experience, to say the least.
