Fantasy Football Week 7: Skill Players Poised for Monster Games

Scott PolacekOct 17, 2014

If Friday’s trade that sent Percy Harvin to the New York Jets inspired you to make some moves in your fantasy football league, there are certain players you should target heading into Week 7.

After all, matchups are always going to play a major role in fantasy production every time your team hits the hypothetical field, and it is important to find the right ones when you are setting your lineup.

Just make sure you don’t have Harvin in there, since the Jets already played their Week 7 game on Thursday.

With that in mind, here is a look at a few players in particular who are poised for monster Week 7 games.

WR Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins

Mike Wallace has found the end zone four times in five games for the Miami Dolphins, but his true value in Week 7 comes in the form of his opponent.

The Chicago Bears may ultimately challenge for a playoff spot this season, but they have allowed 10 touchdown catches in their past four games at Soldier Field.

What’s more, the Bears are 17th in the league with 246.2 passing yards allowed per game, and the secondary was exposed against the Green Bay Packers earlier this season when it allowed 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns to Randall Cobb and 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns to Jordy Nelson.

Wallace could potentially put up big numbers against that secondary.

Chicago also has a powerful offense that should put up some points Sunday behind Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett. It finally appeared to click on all cylinders in the second half of the victory over Atlanta.

The Dolphins could find themselves playing from behind early, which means more passing and more opportunities for Wallace to find the end zone yet again.

RB Justin Forsett, Baltimore Ravens

Michael Fabiano of NFL.com declared Justin Forsett as his "Start of the Week" from the running back position:

"

Forsett has been one of the more pleasant surprises in fantasy football, scoring 11-plus points in four of six games including each of his last three contests. His success should continue against the Falcons, who have surrendered more touchdowns (11) and more fantasy points (29.37 PPG) to running backs than any NFL team.

"

Fabiano touched on Atlanta’s struggle against the run this season. The Falcons are actually allowing an abysmal 140.2 rushing yards a game, which is 28th in the league.

Forte, Andre Williams, Jerick McKinnon, Giovani Bernard and even Mark Ingram all had monster days against the Atlanta front seven, and Forsett has plenty of momentum on his side entering this favorable matchup.

He finished with 111 rushing yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the last time out, 97 total yards and a touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts the week before and 97 total yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers before that.

Forsett is riding an impressive three-game stretch that will turn into four against a vulnerable Atlanta defense on Sunday.

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

Yes, we live in a world where the Dallas Cowboys are arguably the top team in the NFL and Tony Romo is a legitimate fantasy football stud. At least he will be against the New York Giants in Week 7.

In his past six contests against the Giants, Romo has averaged a head-turning 308.5 passing yards a game and has 14 touchdown passes.

Romo just threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns against the Houston Texans and 250 yards and two touchdowns against the mighty “Legion of Boom” and the Seattle Seahawks.

As for the Giants, they are 24th in the league against the pass (261.7 passing yards per game). That spells opportunity for your fantasy team if you have Romo starting.

Dallas also has DeMarco Murray racking up incredible numbers, which means the Giants may have to stack the box in an effort to stop the run. Romo discussed the impact of the running game, according to STATS LLC, via ESPN.com:

"

We've had good running games in the past before -- probably not as many in a row -- but my job is to obviously get us into good plays and get the ball to DeMarco and run the ball to the right looks. On third down, the running game doesn't help you as much -- you've got to go out and execute it.

"

With Murray and Romo putting up big numbers, the Cowboys look like a legitimate threat in the NFC. Your fantasy team will also be a legitimate threat in Week 7 with Romo under center.
