Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Injury: Updates on Pistons Star's Knee and Return
Detroit Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope suffered a knee injury against the Washington Wizards on Sunday.
The news of Caldwell-Pope's ailment was reported by the Keith Langlois of NBA.com. Vincent Goodwill of the Detroit News later reported the MRI revealed a strain:
Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated had more on Caldwell-Pope's timeline:
Following the game, teammate Greg Monroe spoke about the injury that forced Caldwell-Pope to exit to the locker room, via Langlois.
"Any time your teammate goes down like that, as focused as you are on the game, it's a little bit scary," Monroe said. "You kind of lose a little bit of focus. I think guys did a good job of regrouping, but people do lose a little bit of focus."
No timetable has been issued for Caldwell-Pope, who played well for the Pistons last season as a rookie. Averaging 5.9 points and two rebounds per game in 2013-14, the second-year player is expected to play a bigger role this year, as long as he can stay healthy.
The diagnosis for Caldwell-Pope is good for the Pistons, who will need every player they can get in coach Stan Van Gundy's first season. After finishing 29-53 last season, Detroit has a lot of work to do to make a dent in the Eastern Conference.
