Boston Celtics guard James Young will sit out Wednesday's preseason game against the New York Knicks and is considered "week to week" due to a strained left hamstring, Celtics head coach Brad Stevens told reporters.
Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald provided the news:
It's unclear at this time when Young suffered the injury. The former Kentucky star scored 10 points and played 20 minutes in the Celtics' preseason-opening win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. He did not show any signs of injury and was not listed among non-participants at Tuesday's practice.
The Celtics drafted Young with the No. 17 overall selection in June's draft. The 6'6" shooting guard averaged 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds on 40.7 percent shooting as a freshman at Kentucky, helping lead the Wildcats to the national title game. He is expected to compete with Marcus Thornton for the primary backup job to starter Avery Bradley.
Jeff Green, Vitor Faverani and Rajon Rondo will also sit out Wednesday night, per NESN's Zack Cox.
