Premier League Table: Latest 2014 EPL Standings and Predictions for Matchday 7

Arsenal will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Premier League leaders Chelsea on Matchday 7 of the 2014-15 campaign, and the Gunners will be looking to avoid another embarrassing loss at the hands of the Blues on Sunday.   

Last year's 6-0 thrashing will surely be brought up countless times in the lead-up to Week 7's marquee fixture, and with Arsenal suffering another wave of injuries, fans may be fearing the worst.   

Elsewhere, Manchester United will host Everton in a battle of disappointing sides trying to right the ship, while Tottenham will take on high-flying Southampton.

Chelsea Favourites, but Don't Expect Another Trashing

Yes, the Blues have looked phenomenal so far in the 2014-15 season while the Gunners have struggled, and the visitors' back four is finding it difficult to cope with a number of injuries. The addition of Diego Costa, who seems to be scoring goals whenever he pleases, also doesn't hurt.

Arsenal won't just have to field their makeshift defence on Sunday. As reported by The Guardian's Dominic Fifield, Aaron Ramsey became the latest Gunner unavailable for selection.

But last season's painful defeat still sits with the Gunners, and they'll do anything they can to avoid a similar fate this time around. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sounds determined to make a statement, via the Daily Mirror's John Cross:

We do understand what happened there last season. Maybe we have got a point to prove there, we know this year we have got to step up in the big games and get some results in them.

We’re really looking forward to that game and I definitely think we can go there with confidence. We give Chelsea the respect they deserve – but, at the same time, I have belief in my team-mates and we believe in ourselves to be able to go to a place like Chelsea and set the tempo and hopefully take control of the game.

The Blues should be able to dictate the pace of the match and control possession in the centre of the pitch, and on paper at least, a win is a must. But with last year's debacle in the back of their minds, don't expect the Gunners to fold and concede a bunch of goals like they did last year.

Juan Mata Will Shine Against Everton

Lost in all of the negativity surrounding United's slow start to the season is the fact that Juan Mata has quietly produced every time he stepped on the pitch. Per WhoScored.com, the Spain international has two goals in five total appearances, with a passing percentage of 92.6. Those are solid numbers for a supposed bench player.

Playing behind the duo of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao and with Angel Di Maria at his side, he'll have plenty of options to showcase his abilities as a playmaker. The fact Everton field the league's worst defence won't hurt either, via WhoScored.

Bleacher Report UK's Stan Collymore (h/t to FourFourTwo's Sam Pilger) believes the midfielder will be moved in the January window, but Mata is in a perfect position to shine, regardless of whether he has the extra motivation of showcasing his talents for potential suitors.

Wayne Rooney's suspension could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Mancunians. If Mata impresses Louis van Gaal enough, he might be in line for more minutes. Worst-case scenario, interested teams will get an extended look at how he runs the team's attack. Either way, expect a big performance from the Spaniard.

Champions League Hangover for Manchester City

Aston Villa have lost back-to-back Premier League fixtures, but a trip to Villa Park won't be easy for Manchester City regardless. AS Roma have been in sensational form in Serie A and trashed CSKA Moscow 5-1 in the Champions League, and the Citizens will be in for a serious battle in midweek.

Paul Lambert told Sky Sports' Pete O'Rourke there's a chance Christian Benteke could celebrate his return to the pitch on Saturday, but whether he plays or not, his teammates will receive a serious boost just by seeing him on the bench.

Roma are anchored by Radja Nainggolan, who is enjoying a tremendous breakout season in 2014-15. His aggressive play in the centre of the pitch and excellent movement will take its toll on the Citizens. Di Marzio's David Amoyal isn't hiding his appreciation of the player:

Following up a physical battle against an equally physical team in Villa, Saturday's fixture is the definition of a "trap game." City will still be favourites, but any form of complacency could set them back even further in their attempt to retain the Premier League crown.
