Mexico vs. Bolivia: Latest Form Guide, Live Stream and Predictions

Tom SunderlandSep 7, 2014

Mexico and Bolivia are poised to collide in Colorado this Tuesday as Miguel Herrera's side continue their friendly fixture run in the United States, fresh after drawing against Chile on Saturday.

Mexico may have been hurt to leave the 2014 World Cup at the hands of a sore, last-gasp defeat against the Netherlands, but their run to the round of 16 was a remarkable achievement all the same.

At the tournament, Miguel Herrera's side showed that they can indeed duel with some of the world's finest, while Bolivia didn't make it to Brazil, finishing just above bottom side Paraguay in CONMEBOL qualification.

The only saving grace for Xabier Azkargorta's side is that the neutral venue may give them a boost in clinching a result, but form would suggest El Tri are favourites for the tie.

Form Guide

Herrera wasn't completely content with his side's 0-0 stalemate against Chile this weekend, the ninth game this calendar year in which Mexico have avoided defeat, losing only three of their 12 matches in 2014.

For Bolivia, however, United States soil wasn't as welcoming, and Ecuador subjected Azkargorta's men to a 4-0 thrashing in Florida, the third match in succession that they've conceded two goals or more.

South American football writer Juan Arango confirms the Bolivians are breaking records of an unenviable variety:

The result also stretched Bolivia's miserable record in 2014, the side having played Greece and Spain in friendlies earlier this year, losing on both occasions.

Azkargorta has seen his team win just one game since the beginning of 2013—a 2-1 win over Haiti in February 2013—and without doing the manager injustice, they're very much a side in disarray.

Mexico, on the other hand, were impressive at the World Cup and have realised the identity and intentions they're attempting to establish moving forward.

One trait of Mexico's in recent times is that when they do concede, it doesn't tend to be in heavy numbers. The last-gasp 2-1 loss to the Netherlands was just the second time this year they'd conceded two goals or more.

Prediction

It's been a difficult period for Bolivia of late, finishing 13 points off the pace for 2014 World Cup qualification and struggling to unearth anything even close to resembling good form.

It doesn't help their cause that while they have only had two fixtures this calendar year, Mexico have grown closer and more united as an outfit, their World Cup campaign providing a host of learning points and positive lessons.

El Tri will come out on top in Denver but should also be able to compound their opponents' misfortunes with a scoreline that flatters their attack, the Bolivians back to concede three or more.

Prediction: Mexico 4-1 Bolivia
