How Aaron Murray Fits with the Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs fans were riding a wave of elation, and, in the blink of an eye, Andy Reid turned it into a whirlpool of controversy. 

At 6'1", 207 pounds, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray will always be linked to smaller passers—namely Drew Brees and Russell Wilson.

Currently, he finds himself walking down the road to recovery, as a late-season ACL tear put a damper on the ending of his collegiate career. That, in turn, will likely contribute to his pocket paranoia, which he occasionally succumbs to when rushers converge onto his location. 

Those are the (major) flaws. 

However, fortunately for the Chiefs, his redeeming qualities outweigh them. 

Murray's arm strength won't ever drop jaws, as it barely edges that of Alex Smith. That being said, he has one of the quickest releases in this year's quarterback class, whipping the ball with little to no wasted motion. 

When stretching the field, his deep-ball accuracy wavers between decent and slightly above average. On short to intermediate routes, though, Murray tends to be nothing short of a pinpoint passer (ring a bell?). The rookie completed over 64 percent of his passes in each of his last two seasons. 

He operated Georgia's pro-style offense for four years, which could give him a leg up on some of his classmates.

Murray refines his pre-snap intentions based on what information the defense seemingly gives him. And, after the snap, he isn't a hasty decision-maker, showing discipline when his initial read is covered.

While Kansas City's incoming quarterback isn't as mobile as Smith, he exhibits enough athleticism to avoid pocket pressure and scramble past the markers. 

Summarizing Murray's skill set, CBS Sports' Rob Rang jotted:

COMPARES TO: Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals - Just as Dalton did in guiding TCU to a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin, Murray answered critics of his poise with several impressive wins as a senior. Only an inch shorter than the 6-2, 220-pound Dalton and possessing at least as much arm talent, Murray could emerge as a quality starter in the NFL but might need talent around him to take his team to the Promised Land.

Can Andy Reid eventually promote him to a respectable starter? Without a doubt.

And even if that doesn't turn out to be the case, Kansas City's quarterback whisperer can still likely, if nothing else, flip Murray's selection into additional picks in the future. 

One thing is certain, though: Another veteran, Chase Daniel, isn't going to sleep well tonight.
