Bermane Stiverne vs. Chris Arreola: Fight Time, Date, Live Stream and TV Info

Brian MaziqueMay 8, 2014

In the heavyweight division, it's Wladimir Klitschko and everybody else. On Saturday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California, two contenders will engage in a rematch to separate themselves from the pack.

Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola (36-3, 31 KO) will take on Bermane "B. Ware" Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO) to capture the vacant WBC heavyweight championship. It's the only recognized world title at heavyweight that Klitschko doesn't currently hold.

The two men met back in April 2013. Stiverne won a unanimous decision and dropped The Nightmare in the third round. The shot that sent Arreola to the canvas also broke his nose.

There was no controversy in the final decision, as most would agree Stiverne dominated from start to finish.

Fresh off a first-round KO of Seth Mitchell in his bounce-back fight in Sept. 2013, Arreola is now looking to gain some revenge from his defeat against Stiverne in their first meeting and win his first world title.

The L.A. native will have almost all of his hometown crowd behind him for the biggest fight of his career.

Here's how you can watch the rematch.

When: Saturday, May 10 at 8 p.m. ET

Where: Galen Center in Los Angeles, California

TV: ESPN and ESPN Deportes

Live Stream: Watch ESPN

The Book on Arreola

LAS VEGAS - APRIL 11: Chris Arreola enters the ring for his heavyweight bout against Jameel McCline at the Mandalay Bay Events Center April 11, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arreola won by knockout in the fourth round. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

The sport is starving for an American heavyweight to make himself relevant. Arreola is part of the great American hope, but he has yet to score the type of victory that would make fans feel as if he could be a legitimate threat to Wladimir Klitschko.

He had his shot against Vitali Klitschko back in 2009. The elder Klitschko beat Arreola harder than the bass drum in Boogie Down Productions' "T'Cha T'Cha."

The fight was mercifully stopped by Arreola's corner in the 10th round. Since then, Arreola has compiled a record of 9-2, with losses to Tomasz Adamek and Stiverne.

His wins have come over fighters most wouldn't know, with the exception of Mitchell. However, since his defeat against Stiverne, Arreola has rededicated himself to his craft.

Arreola told the Associated Press, via Fox Sports: "I've been ready for this fight since I got out of the ring with (Stiverne) last year. I've got to stay in the gym. I've got to stay committed to the sport I love so much."

Per the Fox Sports article, Arreola's training location has been moved from Riverside, California, to take the fighter away from the distractions that have hindered him in the past.

He's living cleaner, in better shape and focused on maximizing his talents.

The formula seemed to work in the preparation for the fight with Mitchell.

Max Boxing's Steve Kim had this to say about Arreola heading into Saturday's clash.

If Arreola can beat Stiverne—especially in front of a national television audience—it'll land him a world title and vault him up the modest heavyweight ladder.

The Book on Stiverne

Arreola has trained to be a better version of himself, but it doesn't change the fact that Stiverne already owns the head-to-head victory.

The Canadian, by way of of Haiti, seems confident he can trump The Nightmare again. Stiverne told Jake Donovan of Boxing Scene:

"

I have the style, and I’m able to be smart in the ring and do certain things that he can’t do. So to me I just have to prove to whoever thought that it was impossible for me to win the fight, go out there and beat him (again).

"

Inactivity is perhaps the biggest concern for the 35-year-old. This will just be Stiverne's fourth fight in three years. He's waited on opportunities to fight the best competition, and his chance to compete for a title has finally arrived.

Can Stiverne beat the new and improved Arreola?

Prediction

There's substance in the belief that Arreola will be at his best for Saturday's clash with Stiverne. But it won't matter in the end.

This fight will be more competitive, but Stiverne is still the quicker, superior boxer with a four-inch reach advantage, per BoxRec.com.

Arreola should do enough to ensure the extension of his relevance in the heavyweight division, but Stiverne will win another unanimous decision to capture his first world title.

Follow me. I'm addicted the sweet science.
