Power Ranking Top 2015 Recruits from California

Edwin WeathersbyMar 10, 2014

California is among the elite hotbeds for college football recruits. College coaches from every conference in America come to the Golden State multiple times a cycle, looking for top recruits due to California's incredible talent base.

This year is a special one out west, as California is loaded with exceptional talent, even by its own standards.

Two 5-star quarterbacks lead the way, but the state also has 5-star talent at cornerback, linebacker and defensive tackle.

10. Keisean Lucier-South, DE

1 of 10

If your favorite program is looking for a speed-rusher, then its coaching staff should be all over 4-star prospect Keisean Lucier-South.

The Orange County native is 6'5" and 215 pounds. He's not the strongest player on the edge, but Lucier-South is explosive and sudden at the snap. He has the length to stay clean during his rush, plus he displays a great surge to close and finish on the ball.

USC, UCLA, Michigan, Texas and Notre Dame are some top schools in the mix, according to 247Sports.

9. Jacob Daniel, DT

2 of 10

At 6'4" and 310 pounds, 4-star defensive tackle Jacob Daniel looks like a college player right now. He's a large human being who is dominant in the defensive trenches.

Daniel, who hails from central California, has outstanding strength and power at the point of attack. He possesses heavy hands to punch blockers, plus he can sink his hips and anchor versus running plays with ease.

He will push the pocket as a pass-rusher, as his strength allows him to fight to pressure passers. It would be surprising if he didn't sign with USC.

8. Kahlil McKenzie, DT

3 of 10

A 4-star defensive tackle, Kahlil McKenzie may be better off as a 3-4 defensive end in college. He has great size at 6'4" and 309 pounds, plus he is a powerful player.

McKenzie, whose father Reggie is the general manager of the Oakland Raiders, flashes good quickness at the snap and when finishing on the ball. He can stack blocks due to his strength, plus he plays with solid on-field awareness in the trenches.

Tennessee, USC and Oklahoma are schools to watch, per 247Sports.

7. Cordell Broadus, WR

4 of 10

We go from one 4-star recruit with a famous father to another, as Cordell Broadus is the son of hip hop artist Snoop Dogg.

At 6'2" and 195 pounds, Broadus is a speedy receiver with good quickness and athleticism. He can climb on top of cornerbacks on the perimeter and separate from them downfield, plus he does a good job of eluding defenders when running after the catch.

He needs to polish his route running, but he has a high ceiling. Keep an eye on USC and UCLA with the Los Angeles native.

6. Blake Barnett, QB

5 of 10

Although two other 5-star passers from the Golden State get the headlines, Blake Barnett also deserves to shine in the spotlight.

The 6'3.5", 195-pounder has impressive arm strength to make all the throws from the pocket. Barnett can stand tall after setting up quickly, deliver an accurate strike outside the hashes and keep his offense on the field.

He has room to grow as a player, but the Notre Dame commit makes solid decisions with the ball.

5. Rasheem Green, DT

6 of 10

Although he's a 5-star defensive tackle, Rasheem Green is still figuring things out as a player. He possesses rare athleticism for his position and size at 6'5" and 275 pounds.

He can work well as a 3-technique defensive tackle to penetrate gaps with quickness. However, his strength and ability to anchor at the point of attack will be assets for him if he's asked to two-gap in college.

Green, who plays for Los Angeles powerhouse Serra High School, has USC, UCLA, Florida and Washington, among other schools, hot on his trail, according to 247Sports.

According to Greg Biggins of Scout.com, "Green is still raw as a player and learning technique but he does have a motor, plays with toughness and is capable of dominating a game. In a few years, he could be down right scary."

4. John Houston, LB

7 of 10

Whether it be inside or outside, John Houston will be a starting college linebacker soon enough. Although he's light in the pants at 6'3" and 205 pounds, he is a terrific athlete for his position.

He has ideal range and speed, plus he can cover tight ends and running backs. Houston exhibits solid vision and awareness, as evidenced by his ability to quickly locate the ball after the snap. He'll be a three-down 'backer at the collegiate level.

USC, UCLA, Florida State and Oklahoma are among his top schools, per 247Sports.

3. Iman Marshall, CB

8 of 10

While 5-star cornerback Iman Marshall could grow into a safety, he's best on the perimeter right now. The big cover man is comfortable in space, plus he can peel off the perimeter to support the run.

Marshall, who plays for national juggernaut and NFL factory Long Beach Poly, is 6'1" and 190 pounds. He can use his length to press receivers at the line, plus he has the anticipation skills to work well in off-man coverage.

He may be the most compete cornerback in the country. USC is his leader for his signature, according to 247Sports.

2. Josh Rosen, QB

9 of 10

At 6'4" and 205 pounds, 5-star quarterback Josh Rosen is not only among the nation's top passers, he's one of the country's best overall prospects.

He has everything you want in a top-flight quarterback prospect, including arm strength, accuracy, touch, confidence, intelligence and mobility. He's one of the best quarterback prospects to come out of California in a decade.

Rosen will announce his decision on March 20, according to 247Sports. It would be an upset if he didn't commit to UCLA.

1. Ricky Town, QB

10 of 10

From powerhouse St. Bonaventure in Ventura, 5-star quarterback Ricky Town is the top player in California right now—although several others are on his heels.

Town, who is 6'4" and 205 pounds, is an instinctive passer with terrific accuracy and decision-making ability. He has the arm strength to make all types of throws inside and outside the pocket, plus he has the anticipation skills to place balls in windows before a receiver comes out of his break.

Town is committed to USC.
