'Dem Apples: Michigan Chokes On the Core
You see that smile on my face?
I owe it to Dennis Dixon and the Oregon Ducks—who laid the smackdown on a Michigan team still in denial about Appalachian State...
Ann Arbor Blues
Here's hoping Bleacher Report Top25 voters give the Wolverines what they deserve: a fabulous trip to the basement.
Dennis Dixon threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Oregon "Mighty" Ducks thumped the Wolverines 39-7...and silenced the 100,000+ fans who filled the Big House hoping for better things.
Lloyd Carr is definitely on the hot seat with the Notre Dame Non-Fightin' Irish coming to town next weekend. Everybody knew before the Oregon game that Michigan had to win to salvage the season. Now, everybody has to ask Carr, Chad Henne, and Mike Hart that wicked question:
HOW DO YOU LIKE 'DEM APPLES, BOYS?
By the way, Appalachian State won this weekend.
Tigers Earn #1 Spot
After Saturday, I'm convinced.
The LSU Tigers thumped the Virginia Tech Hokies 48-7 to seal their fate as the new #1 team in the country. The Bayou Bengals wasted no time in proving just how badly they want the national championship.
As a Florida fan, I've got to admit that I'm starting to wonder how 'dem apples will go down when the Tigers and Gators duke it out for the SEC title.
The End of History
The Auburn Tigers are an SEC powerhouse, but even Lee Corso said to watch out for South Florida.
On Saturday night, the Bulls stunned the Tigers 26-23 in overtime. And that wasn't the only upset.
The Washington Huskies, believed by many to be complete pushovers, ended the longest winning streak in the nation by shocking the #22 Boise State Broncos 24-10. To make things even more interesting, Steve Spurrier was up to his old tricks as his South Carolina Gamecocks delivered a 16-12 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
To the Tigers and the 'Dawgs, I ask this: How do you like 'dem apples?...because right now, there are several SEC teams that like them just fine.
There are a number of key games on the slate next weekend—Florida hosting Tennessee, for one—but the biggest will be #1 USC against #16 Nebraska.
Can the Trojans answer LSU? Can Florida win a big one against the Volunteers? Can Michigan finally win one in the Big House this season?
Enjoy the work week, because Saturday will leave you hoarse and hungover—but thirsty for more.
Game On Mutha#@$%&%! Game On!
