College FB Top 10: LSU Earns #1
1. LSU
I know it’s a bit unfair to the Trojans, but the statement LSU made yesterday justifies this move to the top. Now that the offense is on track, this team is flat out terrifying.
2. USC
If USC is the juggernaut we all think it is, the Trojans shouldn’t have a problem beating Nebraska.
3. Oklahoma
130 points in two games? Amazing. The Sooners hearkened memories of 2005 by walloping Miami 51-13 on Saturday. Prior to the season, pundits were putting USC and LSU on their own pedestal. It looks like OU belongs there too.
4. Florida
Allowing 31 points to Troy is cause for concern, but the Gators are stacked on the offensive side of the ball, and Troy’s spread attack would be a handful for a lot of defenses around the country.
5. West Virginia
The Mountaineers struggled in the first half of their game against Marshall. In the second half, their offense flexed its muscle and proved that Rich Rodriguez’s spread attack can be flat-out unstoppable. Oh, and how bout Noel Devine? His speed and quickness are his biggest assets, but have you ever seen a 170-pound back drag defenders or push a pile like that?
6. Texas
They’ve been less than impressive at times, but I’m convinced that once Colt McCoy regains his freshman year form (which I expect to happen soon), this team will be scary.
7. Cal
The Golden Bears are going to have play better D eventually, but for now I’m content to rank them this high on the basis of their high-powered offense. Nate Longshore is a strong-armed, quality decision maker. At his disposal, he’s got the likes of DeSean Jackson, Lavelle Hawkins, Justin Forsett, Jahvid Best...the list goes on.
8. Wisconsin
The Badgers are a well-balanced team. Tyler Donovan is playing mistake-free football, P.J. Hill is the Big 10's premier back, and the defense is excellent.
9. Ohio State
Todd Boeckman stands to improve his decision-making, but the Buckeye D is top-tier, and Chris Wells will keep this offense moving in times of need.
10. Clemson
One of my favorite teams. Cullen Harper is playing exceptionally well for a first-time starter, and the Davis-Spiller duo is the top running tandem in the country, save McFadden and Jones at Arkansas. Like I’ve said before, when this team is firing on all cylinders, they can play with anyone.
