TNA Old School 2013 Spoilers: Full Results and Reaction for Match Card

Chris RolingDec 30, 2013

TNA’s One Night Only pay-per-view series made its return with the 2013 edition of Old School on Dec. 30 at the historic Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

While only a pre-taped event that will be sold as a pay-per-view at a later date, there was a certain buzz around Old School before the show.

After all, Magnus and Samoa Joe were the headliners in a TNA World Heavyweight Championship match, and ECW legend Tommy Dreamer made his return to face Bully Ray in a Falls Count Anywhere match.

TNA gets a lot of criticism for its pre-taped pay-per-view format, but Old School delivered in a big way and is a must-buy for fans of the company.

Falls Count Anywhere Match: Bully Ray Defeated Tommy Dreamer

In what was one of the most anticipated matchups of the night, ECW original Tommy Dreamer took on Bully Ray in a street fight that was violent from the opening bell:

Dreamer is a known commodity as one of the sport's most violent athletes and is not only the definition of hardcore wrestling, but a nice throwback to the golden days as fans pointed out:

It was a bit strange to see Dreamer put over Bully Ray in a themed pay-per-view tailored to legends such as himself, but it makes sense from a booking standpoint to keep one of the company's top dogs looking strong.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Magnus Defeated Samoa Joe

As expected, Magnus and Samoa Joe put on a show. The two have a long history, but more importantly, the two have styles that mesh well in the ring.

While a bit predictable Magnus was going to get the win in some fashion, the company made the right move. He is a terrific heel since winning the title, and a dirty win by way of interference from Ethan Carter III will only get Magnus more heat.

It is not great to see Samoa Joe in this role after all he has done for the company, but right now TNA needs him to continue to swallow his pride and help put over the next big thing.

From the sounds of reports, Joe is doing just that and continuing to look dominant while not taking a clean loss here. It seems only a matter of time before the title is back within his grasp.

Monster's Ball Match: Jeff Hardy Defeated Abyss

This match between Jeff Hardy and Abyss sounds as if it was worth the price of admission alone:

As soon as this match was placed on the card, fans knew it was going to be brutal and lined with violent spots.

Hardy and Abyss took part in the bloody affair that helped to pay homage to the sport's more violent days. At one point, Hardy took a backdrop onto thumbtacks, which likely feels as bad as it sounds.

But Hardy was able to pull through with the victory by hitting a swanton while Abyss was trapped between boards lined with barbed wire.

A brutal ending to a fitting main event. Hardy continues his strong in-ring work and gets over in a big way, while the monster Abyss gets more notoriety in his latest reappearance.
