ACC Football Position Rankings: Quarterback
1. Russell Wilson, N.C. State
This guy torched many opposing defenses this year and was very accurate throwing the ball down field. He only threw one interception the whole year which was a heave ho at the end of a game against Clemson.
Wilson is No. 1 in this group because of his ability to beat defenses with his legs and his accuracy throwing the ball down field .
2. Josh Nesbitt, GT
Nesbitt towards the end of the year really started to get the complex triple option offense that Paul Johnson brought with him from Navy. He is getting better with his decision making and doesn't make very many mistakes. If he continues to improve he will make some defensive coordinators very upset.
3. Christian Ponder, Florida State
Ponder took over the QB position mid-way through the year from Drew Weatherford and the move paid great dividends for the Seminoles.
Ponder has shown that in tough situations he can will his team to victory with his great passing and his ability to run around defenses. Ponder has drawn a lot of comparisons to Chris Weinke for his poise in the pocket and the ability to take a hit from any defensive player.
4. Riley Skinner, Wake Forest
Skinner led the ACC in completion percentage last year and with good reason. Jim Grobe's offense is set up to let Skinner do what he does best, pass. Sometimes his passing would get him in trouble as he threw 8 interceptions last year to his only 13 touchdown passes.
If Skinner can remain consistent watch out he will tear opposing defenses to shreds.
5. T.J. Yates, UNC
Yates had to battle through some injuries last year which made UNC lose three of their final four games. When Yates is on he is one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC (UCONN game).
When he's not he's one of the worst (N.C. State game.) If Yates can stay healthy he has a great chance of getting Carolina to the top of the Coastal Division standings if they can find some playmakers on offense.
6. Thad Lewis, Duke
Thad Lewis last year had an up and down season as he adjusted to new head coach David Cutcliffe's offensive system. Lewis showed signs of improvement as he was able to lead Duke to four wins.
Lewis at times showed off his great arm which would also get him into trouble sometimes, and he also was able to scramble for yardage at times when Duke needed to move the chains.
Duke loses three of their top receivers this year as well as star running back Re'Quan Boyette. Lewis will definitely have his hands full this year.
7. Chris Turner, MD
Turner was a new study in James Franklin's West Coast Offense attack that played to some of Turner's strengths. Turner struggled some in the passing game as he tossed 13 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
Maryland does, however, return a strong rushing attack led by Da'Rel Scott and Josh Portis which will take some of the pressure off of Turner.
8. Jacory Harris, UM
This will be Harris's first full year being the starter at quarterback as he and Robert Marve both took snaps at this position. He will be heavily relied upon in this offense both by using his scrambling abilities and his ability to throw the long ball.
He will have good targets to throw to like Aldarius Johnson and Chris Zellner but is he ready to become the leader the Hurricanes need on offense? Only time will tell.
9. Tyrod Taylor, VT
This guy has been compared to Michael Vick many times during his career at Virginia Tech. Taylor didn't get a lot of opportunities to show what he could do with this offense last year but if anybody saw Taylor play his freshman year, they know he is legit.
If given the keys to Bryan Stinespring's offense he can be one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC.
10. Willy Korn, CU
A lot of Clemson fans can't wait for Korn to take the field. Clemson fans got a taste of Korn in his first game against Georgia Tech in Dabo Swinney's first game as interim head coach.
Korn would have to leave in the third quarter because of an injury but what we can tell the future is bright for Korn. He picked up an understanding of Billy Napiers offense very quickly and has a very high football IQ. Look for him to explode this year.
11. Marc Verica, UVA
Verica was able to get his feet wet last year and struggled mightily at times. He made some poor decisions with the ball and didn't know when to throw the ball away or when to take the sack.
If Virginia wants to improve upon last season they must first see improvement from.
12. Dominique Davis, BC
Davis saw action in a couple of games when Crane was battling injuries and would show some glimmer's of hope for Boston College fans looking for the next Matt Ryan.
Davis certainly has a long way to go to get to that status but if Davis makes better decisions with the ball and has less turnovers, Boston College could surprise some people.
