Evra 6 8
Valencia 5 5
Cleverley 7 7

First Half Analysis

De Gea: Had almost nothing to do.

Rafael: Impressive showing, the Brazilian was defensively sound and bombed forward on occasion.

Smalling: Solid enough in defense, he did well to neutralize the threat of Crouch.

Evans: Tidied up at the back when Stoke made forward progress. His distribution was also clean.

Evra: Could get involved more but looked classy whenever he did participate.

Valencia: Was also only involved sporadically. Offered a little bit of a spark when he drove forward.

Cleverley: Did his best in tough conditions to conduct from deep. Played with some urgency and intent.

Jones: Looked strong in defense, was not bothered too much by Stoke's attacking midfielders.

Anderson: Sloppy at times, he did not appear to be handling the conditions well.

Young: Started brightly when he sent a shot against netting but overall not penetrating enough and fairly wasteful at times.

Welbeck: Tried to make something happen, he was lively and keen to get involved by dropping deep.

Second Half Analysis

De Gea: Had a bit more to do after the break but never really tested.

Rafael: Continued to push forward but, like everyone else, his crosses failed to hit the mark.

Smalling: Maintained his error-free defensive work from the first 45 minutes.

Evans: Put in some last-ditch efforts to thwart Stoke attacks and, like Smalling, handled everything with aplomb.

Evra: Kept his cool when Stoke were pushing for an equalizer, then scored a brilliant second.

Valencia: Overall he should have looked to involve himself a little more, especially with United missing some of their attacking stars.

Cleverley: Ran the show calmly from his deep-lying position. He can be happy with his effort tonight.

Jones: Helped United dominate the middle of the pitch without ever looking too flashy.

Anderson: Combined slightly better with his attacking cohorts, but in general a weak performance before he was substituted.

Young: Had already shown signs of an improved performance before he scored a cracking goal and set up the second for Evra. Great second-half response.

Welbeck: Toiled away but saw less of the ball in the second half.

Hernandez (7): The lively Mexican contributed much more than the man he replaced, Anderson. He teed up Young for his goal as well.
