Leicester City vs. Manchester City: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Steven CookJun 8, 2018

Manchester City look to bounce back off a slew of incredible performances on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the Capital One Cup with a quarter-final clash against Leicester City.

Manuel Pellegrini's squad has been on a magnificent run of good form as of late. After disposing of Champions League title holders Bayern Munich by the score of 3-2 on the road, they tore up Premier League leaders Arsenal at home over the weekend, 6-3.

But it won't be just an average match against an overmatched foe for City. Leicester City are one of England's best lower-level squads as they currently sit in third place in the Championship table with a big-time shot at getting into the Premier League next season.

Top Storyline: No Sergio Aguero, No Problem in Tough Match?

Manchester City have been an offensive juggernaut all season long in the Premier League, featuring an attack typically affected heavily by Sergio Aguero.

Aguero's presence in the attacking third has yielded big-time results for City. In fact, his 13 goals in league play would lead the EPL if it weren't for Luis Suarez's unreal scoring output.

City received some dreadful news after the lopsided Arsenal win, however. Pellegrini confirmed that Aguero will be out for "at least a month" with a calf injury, per The Telegraph

The 25-year-old Argentinian was coming into his own as even more of a world-class player than he already was, and it will take a by-committee approach for City in order to replace his offense and what he brings to the attack. Players like David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure will be asked to step up their respective games even further.

With the mid-week match looming after a week that featured contests against two of the world's best clubs at this moment, Pellegrini may be enticed to rest one or two of his best players to make sure they're good to go for the weekend EPL slate.

City are certainly flirting with disaster in this one. Leicester have proven to be Premier League worthy thus far in their run in England's second league, and they have City coming to face them in their house. The Premier League giants have often not been at their best away from Etihad Stadium this season.

Losing Aguero may not stifle the offense entirely as City is loaded with offensive talent, but it certainly could put a dent in the chemistry that has allowed them to score so many goals in recent fixtures.

Prediction

Aguero or no Aguero, Manchester City are one of the most potent offensive clubs in the world. Six goals against Arsenal did wonders to convince folks that their big-scoring outbursts aren't by any means a fluke.

Leicester are nothing to scoff at, and may very well be on Manchester City's slate at the league level next season. But the Citizens are on a whole different level than most of the world's better clubs at the moment.
