Giants Wrap-Up: Giants Top Cards 4-2, Take First Game In Series

The San Francisco Giants offense is starting to wake up and their pitchers are enjoying it. The Giants won their 4th game in a row as they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2.

Matt Cain (6-1) was excellent through almost seven innings and allowed only two runs on 6 hits.

The Giants got on the board early with a Pablo Sandoval single that brought home Aaron Rowand and Randy Winn.

Sandoval boosted his team leading batting average to .309 on the year.

The Giants weren't satisfied with 2 runs. They came right back in the 4th with two more.

Fred Lewis had an RBI triple that brought home Sandoval and up next was Emmanuel Burriss.

Burriss came through with a single to right and suddenly the Giants were up 4-0. 

Cardinals SP Joel Pineiro (5-5) struggled for most of the night. He only lasted 4 innings and surrendered four runs on six hits. 

The Cardinals made a dent in the Giants lead in the 6th. Colby Rasmus singled to left to bring Albert Pujols home and suddenly it was 4-1.

Yadier Molina also brought Ryan Ludwick home with a fielder's choice. After six innings the Giants had a 4-2 lead. 

The next 3 innings were dominated by the Giants' bullpen. Jeremy Affeldt and Bob Howry through scoreless innings and the score was still 4-2 heading to the 9th.

The Giants' closer Brian Wilson came in and did his job. He breezed through the 9th inning getting three consecutive pop outs to earn his 11th save of the season.

The Giants continue their 3 game series with St. Louis tonight at AT&T Park. First Pitch is scheduled at a special start time of 6:05 pm. The game can be seen on CSNBA in the Bay Area.
