Pack Attack Is Back! Or Is It?

Matthew ReisMay 29, 2009

The Packers have had an interesting off-season, to say the least.  And that is without the rumors of Brett Favre's return. Again.

The Packers changed their defensive scheme.  They went from a basic 4-3 to a 3-4.  To assist in this process, they hire Dom Capers.

Capers has successfully changed defenses.  The question remains: Can he successfully change the Packers defense?

Ted Thompson helped. Yes, you read that correctly.  Ted Thompson helped.

The Packers draft is his best since he has been with Green Bay.  With adding Raji and Matthews on the defense, he plugged some gaps in talent.

The Packers defense can successfully change.  But it depends on if most of the defense, especially linebackers, can stay healthy.  A key injury to any of the starters could be disastrous for the improvement of this Defense.

The offense is in good shape.  The O-line could use another quality starter.  But with Rodgers, Grant, Jennings, Driver, etc., they are look to be a top ten offense.  The only way I see this team not being a top ten offense is if Rodgers gets hurt.  They are woefully thin at QB.

Their schedule is mediocre.  They play about 4 or 5 teams with 3-4 schemes so the change should help the offense since they will be practicing against those schemes daily.  I look for a 10-6 or 11-5 record and a playoff berth.

The division championship can be achieved, but I believe it depends on how Jay Cutler adapts to ChicagoMinnesota does not have a QB.  They will have to rely on their running game.  Minnesota goes 9-7.  Detroit will be improved (I guarantee it!), but not contending.  Detroit goes 5-11.

As we look on to another great season of football, rest assured this team is improved.  They will contend. Go Pack Go!
