Would Mixing Up The Rotation Provide The Needed Spark?
Twins starting pitching. Usually a major strength of our beloved small market team. In years not so long ago the starting pitching has been one of the main reasons the Twins have been able to compete and make consistent runs for the division title and a playoff spot. So what happened? That is the question everybody (including the Twins themselves) is asking. Well here is a possible answer and a possible solution. This year alone the starting rotation of Baker, Liriano, Slowey, Perkins, and Blackburn has racked up a combined record of 15-17, a combined ERA of 7.15, 71 walks, an average whip of 1.376, and an average OBA of .326. Those aren't really encouraging numbers. Of the five pitchers named above it is my belief that only three of them should still be in the rotation. Those three being Blackburn and Slowey because they are doing a good job and giving the club a chance to win, and Glen Perkins only under the premise that he does when he comes off his injury. Baker and Liriano are the two pitchers the Twins came into the season counting on to be the rocks of the rotation and have shown to be nothing more then sand hills.
All that aside I believe there is a solution to the problem, though it may be a radical one it may just be crazy enough to work. Though he is unproven Anthony Swarzak has shown he has the ability to pitch well against some tough lineups. I say give him Liriano's spot in the rotation when Perkins comes back and send Fransisco back down to the minors or the bullpen to figure his mechanics out and gain some confidence in his ability. As for Scott Baker, though everybody loves him and he is a fan favorite I think he should be sent down as well get himself in order. The jobs were handed to these guys after a good year last year and they are pitching as if there is no way anybody in their right mind would send them down or take their spot away in the rotation. I think it would send a message like the one sent to the rest of the team when Alexi Cassia was sent to Triple A, that you have to earn your spot and produce consistently to be a regular on this team. Really would a rotation of Slowey, Blackburn, Perkins, Swarzak, and Henn be any worse then right now. It's so bad that the bullpen in having to be overworked causing its production to fall as well.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Maybe, and this is a slim chance, the front office and the managers need stop looking at whats behind them and turn their eyes forward to the problem that is right in front of them. Having hope that things will turn around is one thing, but doing something about the problem to force it to turn around is another. To have the hope is great, but they must have forgotten that they are running a professional baseball team and that sometimes when somebody is pulling their own you have to do something about it. Its radical but at least its an idea, which so far, is better then anything the organization has come up with.
