South Africa vs. Pakistan, 3rd ODI: Scorecard, Recap and More from Centurion
South Africa won the third and final one-day international against Pakistan at Centurion by four wickets, but the result was only a consolation with the tourists claiming the series 2-1 overall.
The Proteas won the toss and inserted Pakistan, making it count with an impressive bowling display.
At 3.1 overs short of their allotted 50, Pakistan were all out for just 179.
It might have been far worse, too, were it not for their captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Once again the skipper stood tall while others struggled around him, finishing unbeaten on 79 from 107 balls.
Misbah lamented a poor batting display but was happy with the overall prize, as he explained in the post-match interview, recorded by Cricinfo:
"[We] have had a lot of youngsters coming in and performing, especially after losing the home series in UAE. Really happy with how everyone played, and even though I am a bit disappointed with today, there is a lot we achieved on this tour.
"
South Africa were heavy favourites in the chase, but regular wickets from the Pakistan bowling attack meant the result was never a certainty.
Hashim Amla (41) got the innings off to a decent start, but it was AB de Villiers who had to shepherd the Proteas home to the total.
Having blasted a 45-ball 74 in the previous game, this was a far more measured effort by comparison. But unlike that effort, his 63-ball 48 not out got his team over the line.
De Villiers hailed the bowling in the post-match interview, as relayed by Cricinfo:
"I thought we bowled exceptionally well and we adapted to conditions well this morning. It was tough to come out and bat against a world-class attack.
"
Pakistan now return to the United Arab Emirates for the visit of Sri Lanka, while South Africa welcome India.
