The Dallas Cowboy Coaching Staff: Does It Matter?

Brandon BarnesMay 28, 2009

This may be the only season in which Wade Phillips sees the inside of the new Texas Stadium from the sidelines if he does not produce a playoff caliber team.  No doubt, Jason Garrett could go along with him.

I just don't get Jerry Jones and his ability to pick coaches in which he just bullies them around.  He is an owner, not a coach.  As long as he keeps meddling in the affairs of the coaching staff, it does not matter who he has at what position.  After Jimmy Johnson, he has a history of hiring head coaches with no fire.

Dave Campo, Chan Gailey, Barry Switzer, and now Wade Phillips.

What does he do with those with fire like Parcells?  He gets rid of them or drives them from the team.  Jerry Jones' has this subconscious desire to be the head coach.

What is it going to take for him just to stay away.  Unfortunately, nothing until he sells the team.

He has his hands in too many pockets.

In the end, I'm a big believer that if you don't have the talent, then it does not matter who you have coaching.  Pittsburgh? Talent...New England?  Talent.  Its the head coach who has the ability to draft and keep the talent or attract the talent.

Wade Phillips does not have that talent like Bill Parcells or Jimmy Johnson do.

It could be a year in which the Cowboys have more of the same, meaning a big tease for most of the Cowboy fans.

Take heart, however, in some of the things Jerry(not Wade) did in the off-season such as getting rid of Owens and a not so shabby draft.   Players like Jason Williams -ILB, Stephen McGee - QB, Victor Butler(replacing Ellis) - OLB, Michael Hamlin (S), and Manuel Johnson (WR).

Well, lets give Wade some of the credit.  I'm being too harsh for the sake of reporting..

Its not just talent, its chemistry as well.  Without the chemistry, there is no chance  that the Cowboys will have a successful season.

Successful for the Cowboys is a Super Bowl run.

TO ruined that last year.

Now Romo has the opportunity to bring out his winning ways once again and get this team moving like he's done before.

In the end, its the players that play the game.  I would be more worried about Romo's leadership because its the quarterback that makes or breaks a team.

The coach puts him there.

Its called being a franchise QB.  Just ask Troy Aikman.
