Players Championship Darts 2013 Results: Daily Scores, Updated Schedule and More

Nick AkermanNov 29, 2013

The 2013 Players Championship darts competition is upon us.

This year's top 32—according to the PDC's official ProTour Order of Merit—have descended upon Butlins, Minehead to take part in a tournament that will land the winner a cool £250,000.

Taking place between Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, challengers including Phil "The Power" Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis are ready to mount a run for the prize.

Dutchman van Gerwen won five of eight U.K. Open championships across the past year and tops the annual rankings with earnings of £125,350.

Despite his 6-0 loss to Taylor back in October's Dublin showdown, reported by Sky Sports, Dave Chisnall follows van Gerwen's lead on £68,400, highlighting the dominance of his Dutch rival.

Taylor comes in at a disappointing 19th with £29,850 to his name, while Jamie Lewis holds onto his place in the final 32 with just £200 more than Darren Webster.

Expect major drama when the giants clash in Minehead. With such a huge jackpot to play for, you can bet there will be fireworks.

1st Round: Afternoon Session Results

1 of 6

This year's tournament got off to an explosive start with all 32 players involved across two rounds of fixtures in an afternoon schedule followed by a round of evening encounters.

Read on for a full breakdown of how the early action carried out.

Ian White 6-3 Ronnie Baxter

Having initially managed to pull his opponent to a 2-2 draw, Ronnie Baxter experienced a mid-match slump that ended his rebellious streak. Ian White then pulled away in the opening match of this year's Players Championship.

In the end, the battle of the big scores unsurprisingly decided matters. White managed to hit four 180s as he eventually romped to a 6-3 victory, although Baxter's wasted chances didn't help his case.

Kim Huybrechts 2-6 Terry Jenkins

Terry Jenkins recovered well after suffering the initial setback of a 1-0 deficit against Kim Huybrechts. Jenkins won the second to fifth legs to go 4-1 up as a result.

From there, it was smooth sailing for "The Bull," who dropped just one more game before rounding off a 6-2 opener and booking his second-round clash with White in the process.

Wes Newton 6-2 Andy Smith

Another comeback story to marvel at from this first round of fixtures came courtesy of Wes Newton, whose talents were enough to bring him back from an initial 2-0 deficit against Andy Smith.

The highlight of this battle came when Newton landed three 140s followed by double 12 to cap off a 13-dart finish before claiming his 6-2 triumph.

Gary Anderson 6-5 Stuart Kellett

Stuart Kellett became one of the Players Championship's early casualties after failing to punish opponent Gary Anderson for his profligacy in finishing his own chances.

These two saw out a back-and-forth affair that started with Kellett going 4-1 up but ended with Anderson on the better side of the result. He emerged as the 6-5 victor.

Kellett had his opportunities to move clear of "The Flying Scotsman" in the final legs but succumbed to the pressure of his more experienced foe. He bows out as a result.

Brendan Dolan 6-5 Wayne Jones

Here was another tight affair from the first round, as neither Brendan Dolan nor Wayne Jones could open up anything better than a two-goal cushion in their meeting on Friday. Jones managed to go 3-1 ahead in the early stages.

However, that lead was quickly reduced to nothing before Dolan made a move of his own, although it must be said that neither player was in sensational form.

In the end, though, the man from County Fermanagh came out on top, despite the fact that his opponent managed to register three 180s.

Jamie Caven 6-3 Colin Lloyd

In a titanic tug-of-war between the two Englishmen, Jamie Caven and Colin Lloyd exchanged blows early on in their Friday afternoon bout. There was never more than a leg between them up until the scores were tied at 3-3.

Then, Caven began his ascent, and a fourth maximum of the day earned the the 37-year-old a 4-3 lead. He went on to claim the 6-3 win, ending on double 10.

Peter Wright 6-2 Michael Smith

Peter Wright's routing of Michael Smith was a demonstration in devastation. Although Smith landed four 180s in the meeting, Wright's clinical finishing upon approach paved the way for a smooth 6-2 win.

Steve Beaton 6-5 James Wade

For just the third time in 18 meetings, Steve Beaton got the better of James Wade. Prior to Friday, Beaton had lost six in a row to Wade.

The 49-year-old had everything working in the Players Championship.

All the more surprising was that Wade had a 5-3 lead, only to let it evaporate as Beaton made a late charge.

1st Round: Evening Session Results

2 of 6

Andy Hamilton 6-5 John Part

It certainly wasn't a good start for Andy Hamilton.  He went down 5-1 as John Part was simply tearing him apart, but Hamilton wasn't done.

Hamilton made a terrific comeback, and he will advance to the next round.

Justin Pipe 6-4 Simon Whitlock

Much like Hamilton, Justin Pipe was able to make a big comeback.  He was down 4-1 before starting his impressive comeback, and finished the job by taking out 78 on tops.

Robert Thornton 6-4 Richie Burnett

It looked like it would be smooth sailing for Robert Thornton after going up 4-1 to start their match, but Richie Burnett wouldn't go away.  He got it back to 5-3 before Thornton finally sealed the deal and came away with the big win.

Raymond van Barneveld 6-5 Mervyn King

In one of the closest matches of the day, Raymond von Barneveld and Mervyn King went head-to-head in what was a close one throughout.

While von Barneveld never fell behind in the match, King was able to come back from two-leg deficits twice, evening things at 2-2 and 4-4.  However, it was Raymond who walked away the winner.

Adrian Lewis 6-3 Kevin Painter

It took a while, but Adrian Lewis was able to get on a hot streak to come away with a win over Kevin Painters.

Lewis went down 3-1 to start the match.  However, he caught fire after that, coming away with five straight legs on his way to a nice victory.

Michael van Gerwen 6-1 Jamie Lewis

It was the most dominating match of the evening session, with Michael van Gerwen simply dominating Jamie Lewis.

Van Gerwen came away with four straight legs to start his dominating victory.  Lewis grabbed a leg after that one, but he lost the final two as van Gerwen breezed through the first round.

Phil Taylor 6-2 Paul Nicholson

Phil Taylor got an easy win as well, as there wasn't much to talk about in this one.  He took the first three legs before Paul Nicholson won his first, then the two went back and forth until it was over at 6-2.

Jelle Klaasen 6-4 Dave Chisnall

Although Dave Chisnall outscored his opponent in just about every statistical facet of the match, it was Jelle Klaasen who walked away from their meeting as victor.

Chisnall had nearly twice the amount of 100+ scored and six 180s compared to Klaasen's three, as well as a higher average score, but the only figures that mattered were the six legs that ran in the Dutchman's favour in the end.

After going 1-0 down in the beginning, Klaasen never trailed again and took a firm grip of things when it came to the finishing touches.

2nd Round: Afternoon Session

3 of 6

Brendan Dolan 3-9 Andy Hamilton

The best-of-17-legs matchups got underway with Brendan Dolan's meeting against Andy Hamilton, a fixture that the Northern Irishman let slip after clinging to a 3-2 deficit at one point.

In 12 legs, the pair only managed to hit two 180s between them, showing that this was far from the blockbuster encounter of the second round, but Hamilton starred nonetheless, pulling away from his opponent six back-yo-back wins between leading 3-2 and 8-2.

Terry Jenkins 2-9 Ian White

Terry Jenkins' fine performance on Friday was put to waste after the Englishman was handed an absolute demolition at the hands of Ian White.

The score was 7-0 before Jenkins finally got a leg on the board, but it counted for nought as White's point average of 97.91 led him past his second round obstacle in style.

Jamie Caven 4-9 Justin Pipe

Justin Pipe never trailed his Saturday opposition as he bounced into a leading stride from the off, going 2-0 up before sacrificing a leg to the 37-year-old Jamie Caven.

However, that was as close as "Jabba" got to his man and Pipe gradually eased to a comfortable 9-4 victory over his opposite figure, despite boasting a smaller points average.

Steve Beaton 3-9 Wes Newton

Wes Newton's fine opening to the Players Championship continued with a fine display against Steve Beaton, the victor hitting five 180s on his way to the win while Beaton was left to settle for none.

Finishing with aplomb, "The Warrior" capped off a 9-3 triumph with double tops to cruise into Sunday's quarter-finals.

2nd Round: Evening Session

4 of 6

Jelle Klaasen 5-9 Gary Anderson

Jelle Klaasen did his best to stay within reach of Gary Anderson on Saturday, but several attempts at a revival were futile as "The Flying Scotsman" relentlessly romped to a 9-5 win.

Dutchman Klaasen was far from unimpressive, however, and his 15 100+ scores stood far and above Anderson's tally of six, although the Englishman made better use of his finishing throws.

Robert Thornton 8-9 Raymond van Barneveld

Raymond van Barneveld just eked his way through to the quarter-finals in a tremendously tight back-and-forth fixture against Robert Thornton which easily goes down as match of the tournament thus far.

At only two stages was there a gap of two legs between this pair, who were statistically tight, with a margin of just 0.17 separating their respective three-dart averages in Van Barneveld's favour.

Peter Wright 3-9 Phil Taylor

Phil Taylor's mauling of the competition raged on with Peter Wright the latest to be offered up, crumbling 9-3 to the reigning Players Championship title holder.

Dominant as ever, "The Power" boasted a three-dart average of just over 107 for the second round and was vicious in winning the match's last four games in a row just when it looked like Wright might have made his way back into the fixture.

Michael van Gerwen 9-6 Adrian Lewis

It's always a pity to see one giant lose to another in the earlier phases of competition but fans won't have been complaining after seeing Adrian Lewis bow out in entertaining fashion to Michael van Gerwen.

Both players managed a three-dart average of at least 104, but it was the Dutch victor who edged his opponent with an average of 107 and a high finish of 130 to wrap matters up.

The loss is especially disappointing for Lewis considering he was 6-3 up at one point, but was left looking helpless after Van Gerwen won the last six legs of their clash in a row.

Quarterfinals: Afternoon Session

5 of 6

Michael Van Gerwen 9-4 Wes Newton

As the No. 1 seed, not a lot of people were surprised with Michael Van Gerwen pulling out another win in the quarterfinals.

It was a rather dominant win, with Van Gerwen going up 3-1 and then 6-2 to start the match.  There were a couple of rounds that Wes Newton was able to take after that, but there was no way he was taking down Van Gerwen in this one.

Ian White 6-9 Andy Hamilton

After only making it to the quarterfinals in 2012, Andy Hamilton was able to advance to the semifinals this year with a 9-6 win over Ian White.

Hamilton got off to a 4-0 start before White started to come back.  White won three of the next five, but it still wasn't enough to hold off Hamilton, who got the win without too much drama.

Gary Anderson 7-9 Justin Pipe

Justin Pipe was able to pull out a close 9-7 win to advance to his second consecutive semifinals at the Players Championship.

It looked like it would be a quick one for Pipe, who won the first three legs.  However, Gary Anderson made a big comeback to pull to 5-3 then again at 7-7.

However, Pipe sealed the victory with two straight legs.

Phil Taylor 9-2 Raymond Van Barneveld

The great Phil Taylor had no problem taking down Raymond Van Barneveld in this one, averaging 111.58 against his opponent.  Van Barneveld took the opening leg, but six straight from Taylor had him in business, and he never looked back as he advanced to the seminfinals.

Semifinals and Finals

6 of 6

Semifinals

Michael Van Gerwen 10-5 Andy Hamilton

With yet another quick start, Michael Van Gerwen was able to take down Andy Hamilton in the semifinals to advance once again to the final round.

A 3-0 start put Van Gerwen in great position, but Andy Hamitlon kept hanging in there.  Hamilton was able to grab two straight legs later on to get to 6-3, but three straight legs from Van Gerwen put him at 9-4 before sealing the deal at 10-5.

Justin Pipe 4-10 Phil Taylor

Phil Taylor was on fire in this round, averaging 106.09 per leg, with Justin Pipe averaging just 95.78 as Taylor went on to dominate him to advance to the finals.

Things were certainly tight to start off.  The two traded legs until it was 4-4, but that's when Taylor was able to break out.  He finished things off with six straight legs, advancing to try and take down Van Gerwen.

Finals

Michael Van Gerwen 11-7 Phil Taylor

It was quite an epic final round, with Van Gerwen pulling off an epic comeback to take the Players Championship title.

Things were looking very bright for Taylor to start, as he went all the way up to 6-3, while Van Gerwen's chance at the 2013 title was slipping away.  That didn't seem to bother him, however, as he came out of nowhere to win the next seven legs before sealing what was one crazy comeback victory.
