Australia Chairman's XI vs. England XI: Day 2 Scorecard, Recap at Alice Springs
England's fast bowlers struggled on Day 2 of the two-day friendly with an Australia Chairman's XI, with spinners Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar sharing seven of just eight wickets taken prior to the hosts' declaration on 254-8.
Michael Carberry smashed a quick-fire 37 in the evening session as England reached 47-1 before the game's conclusion, with Joe Root dismissed for just one run as the search for England's Test match No. 3 continues.
More worrying for the England selectors, though, will be the form of bowlers Boyd Rankin and Steven Finn, with the former taking the pair's only wicket in 30 overs combined.
There had been increased focus on Rankin and Boyd heading into the game following England's failure to bowl out Australia in the first Test of the Ashes series at the Gabba in Brisbane last week.
However, with neither bowler yet to find form on the tour and Tim Bresnan closing on a return to fitness, per BBC Sport's Tom Fordyce, a place in the Test team would seem unlikely.
Swann's form, in dismissing four of the Chaiman's XI top five, will be pleasing to the England selectors, with the spinner having been on the receiving end of some rough treatment from Australia's batsmen in Brisbane.

With England generally persisting with a four-man bowling attack over recent years, Swann's contribution to the cause will be essential if the tourists are to retain the Ashes.
However, it is worth noting that three of his wickets on this occasion were caught in the deep as batsmen continued to show an aggressive mindset against his bowling.
It was a day of toil, in general, for England and, indeed, few players have taken the opportunity to stake a claim for Test inclusion.
Gary Ballance's first-innings half-century aside, there has been little cause for celebration and it is now the Zimbabwe-born batsman in pole position to take Jonathan Trott's spot in the side following his return home, per BBC Sport.
Carberry's late burst will boost his confidence ahead of the second Test, but the game will be remembered as one that provided more questions than answers when England's management come to look back upon the events of the past few days.
