Texas A&M Football: 4 Underclassmen Who Will Be Stars by Thanksgiving 2014

Michael TaglientiNov 26, 2013

The Texas A&M football team is stocked full of young talent. There are multiple underclassmen on the football team who will break out and have star performances in 2014.

One of the biggest issues with the 2013 Aggie football team is their youth. The 2013 recruiting class was a very talented group, but they lack the size and strength to compete with their peers in the Southeastern Conference right now.

It is hard to compete in the SEC when you are a 220-pound linebacker and you are trying to tackle running backs who weigh 230-plus pounds. Daeshon Hall is the Aggies' best pure pass-rusher, but at 6'6", 243 pounds, he is no match for the 300-pound offensive linemen he lines up against.

The Aggies will be a much improved team across the board in 2014 because a lot of their freshmen will be more physically prepared for the rigors of the SEC.

This is a look at the underclassmen on the team who will be stars at this time next year.

RB Trey Williams

1 of 4

Trey Williams is already the Aggies' most explosive playmaker at running back. In 2014 he will get more carries and will start to receive more national recognition.

Williams is currently averaging seven yards per carry. He has rushed for 336 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

Williams has only had 48 rushing attempts on the season because of injuries and depth at the position. In 2014, senior running back Ben Malena will have graduated and Williams will receive more touches.

Williams is also the Aggies' best kick returner. He had a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown disallowed because the officials determined that he somersaulted into the end zone. In 2014 and older, a wiser Williams will improve on his 25.8 yards per return average.

DE Daeshon Hall

2 of 4

Daeshon Hall is the Aggies best pure pass-rusher. The true freshman from Lancaster, Texas has been fighting a losing battle against larger, more experienced opponents in 2013.

In 2014 the 6'6", 243-pound defensive end will be closer to 260 pounds and will have the requisite strength to hold up on the edge of the line in the SEC. Hall has long arms and tremendous initial burst off of the line.

He simply need more size and strength in order to be able to beat the elite left tackles in the SEC. Hall has 17 tackles with three tackles for loss and an interception in 2013.

In 2014 with the added size and strength, he will lead the Aggies with six to eight sacks on the season.

WR Ricky Seals-Jones

3 of 4

Texas A&M fans only got a tease of what Ricky Seals-Jones could do on the football field. The true freshman wide receiver caught three passes for 84 yards and a touchdown in the season opener against Rice.

Seals-Jones injured his knee against Rice and is taking a medical redshirt in 2013. In 2014, he will return as a bigger, stronger player.

Mike Evans is the Aggies' leading receiver in 2013 with 61 catches for 1,314 yards and 12 touchdowns. He will likely enter the 2014 NFL Draft and be a first-round selection

Seals-Jones will use his 6'6", 240-pound frame to help replace some of Evans' productivity in 2014. After a year in the program to learn the system, Aggie fans should expect Seals-Jones to catch 50 passes for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2014.

MLB Darian Claiborne

4 of 4

True freshman middle linebacker Darian Claiborne is already the best linebacker on the Texas A&M team. Much like Hall, Claiborne's issue is that he simply does not have the size to stand up to the bigger, stronger SEC players in 2013.

At 6'0", 225 pounds, Claiborne sometimes gives up 10-15 pounds to the running backs he is trying to tackle in the SEC. He just needs another year in the weight room to add some good weight, and strength in order to be able to hold up against SEC competition.

Claiborne has tremendous instincts, which has allowed him to rank second on the defense in total tackles with 79 on the season. He also leads the team with seven tackles for loss and has added 1.5 sacks and an interception.

As a true freshman, Claiborne is the Aggies' second best defensive player behind Deshazor Everett. In 2014 when he has added some weight, he will be one of the best linebackers in the SEC.
