Predicted Champion: Harvard

The Crimson are the best of the bunch out of this eight-team field, although Indiana State could give them a run for their money.

Regardless, it’s hard to see Harvard losing this one—especially with a soft schedule on the way to the championship. The 4-1 Ivy League powerhouse starts the tourney against 0-2 Denver, which it should have no trouble dispatching.

Beating the Pioneers would advance the Crimson to play the winner of the first-round showdown between Pepperdine and Green Bay.

Both of those squads are respectable and should give Harvard a challenge.. The Waves are 4-1 while the Phoenix are 2-1 with their only blemish a three-point loss to No. 10 Wisconsin.

A win there puts the Crimson into the championship, where their well-balanced offensive attack and stifling defense should shine. Harvard averages 77 points, mostly due to the 15 assists per contest that it dishes out, and has held opponents to a mere average of 58.2 points per game.

Much of the credit for Harvard’s success this season is due to junior swingman Wesley Saunders.

The versatile, 6’5”, 215-pound star is averaging 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks in 29.6 minutes per game, proving that he can truly do everything.

Kyle Casey and Steve Moundou-Missi are also instrumental in the frontcourt, as the pair has combined to chip in an average of 21.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.2 blocks.

Don’t be surprised if Harvard uses its elite interior defense and efficient offense to run away with the 2013 Great Alaska Shootout title.
