Carlo Ancelotti Says He 'Tried to Kill' One Chelsea Player During His Reign

Nick AkermanJun 8, 2018

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he "tried to kill" a Chelsea player during his tenure as Stamford Bridge boss.

The current Real Madrid coach spoke honestly in a recent interview with Matt Hughes of The Times (subscription required), as reported by ESPN:

"

There is discipline, there are rules, but you have to be a little bit elastic. Sometimes we were not elastic at Chelsea. One time [Didier] Drogba arrived 30 minutes late for a game, so he didn’t play, but the key is mutual respect.

We’ve never had any problems with the players, just one time at Chelsea. One player didn’t show respect and I tried to kill him, but it wasn’t possible. The player is the property of the club, and sometimes you cannot do what you want.

Ancelotti led the Blues to Premier League and FA Cup glory during the 2009-10 season, but his two-year spell in charge of the club is also remembered for a number of controversies.

As reported by Richard Moriarty of The Sun, John Terry was accused of having an affair with former teammate Wayne Bridge's girlfriend. The allegation completely rocked the club and soured Terry's relationship with many English supporters outside of Chelsea.

Similarly, Ashley Cole's less than stellar reputation also received a battering during Ancelotti's reign when he shot and wounded a 21-year-old student with an airgun, reported by James Orr of The Guardian.

Chelsea fans are unlikely to find out the culprit of Ancelotti's wrath, and there is certainly no suggestion he was referring to either Terry or Cole. Both were big players under his guidance.

Hughes' report in The Times notes that "the player cannot be identified" but "will come as little surprise given his other well-documented misdemeanours."

Ancelotti went on to immediate success after leaving Chelsea and added another trophy to his extensive collection by winning the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.

He has dealt with some of the world's most notoriously egotistical players across the years, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Ramos.

While the Italian boss proved extremely successful in West London, he eventually fell foul of Roman Abramovich's guillotine; a weapon that has beheaded numerous managers across the past few seasons.

Jose Mourinho is currently charge, and as of yet, there has been no reports of attempted murder from the Portuguese manager's camp.
