State of Kentucky in mourning after horrible Wednesday

JoeSportsFanMay 28, 2009

Ripped from the headlines …

The Tigers and Wildcats had a no good horrible humpday. Let’s first start with the UK recruit John Wall, who signed a letter of itnent to play at Kentucky last week. He was charged with breaking and entering and will avoid further legal trouble if he completes 75 hours of community service. I can see it now …

Municipal clerk: Okay, so it says here you worked all of the required 75 hours in the span of three days. That’s going to be a problem.

Wall: Why?

Clerk: Well, there are only 24 hours in a day. If you worked 24 hours each day for three days, that would be three hours short of your requirements.

Wall: That’s not what Coach Calipari said. That’s right: Cal-I-Par-I — John Calipari … the basketball coach!? He said it was fine.

Clerk: I don’t know this Calimari, but if you say so. Your record will be cleared.

Then we have the case of former Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie, who is suing the university for $6 million — that’s $1.5 million each of the next four years.

Much of the 24-page lawsuit highlights the 49-year-old Gillispie’s biography, describing him as an up-and-coming coach who resurrected a Texas A&M program before leaving to lead Kentucky, the nation’s all-time winningest college basketball program.

“He resigned a promising, successful position as head coach with a rapidly ascending program at Texas A&M,” it says. “He did so because he believed [the university's] false representations to him during his negotiations.”

The best way to sell your self to potential employers? Sue your former employer while talking about how great you are.

Finally, the Memphis Tigers might have to forefeit their record 38 win season and Final Four appearance if the “allegations” are true.  And just what are those allegations?

No, really? For his part, the squeaky clean former Memphis coach (and new Kentucky coach) is happy to assist the NCAA in their hearing:

“Even though I’m not at risk, I will fully cooperate with the NCAA hearing. [I] will have no further comment.”

What a guy.

Former coach suing school + school recruit getting arrested + new coach bringing corruption to the court = immeasurable pain for this guy.
