Scotland vs. Australia: Score, Recap and More from 2013 Autumn International
Australia overcame Scotland 21-15 at Murrayfield on Sunday, with the under-strength tourists doing just enough to achieve the victory.
Christian Lealiifano put the Wallabies ahead with an early penalty, but the Scots quickly replied with two penalties of their own from scrum-half Greig Laidlaw (all game information taken from Planet Rugby's live commentary).
Lealiifano levelled things at 6-6, then on 27 minutes the game finally got its first try.
It was Australia who scored it, with Quade Cooper releasing Israel Folau to power through and score close to the posts. Scotland will look back on a defensive weakness that allowed Folau to break their line.
The try was converted by Lealiifano, but Scotland collected another penalty before the break to take things into the interval with the score at 13-12 to the tourists.
The match was in the balance, but it was Australia who struck early in the second half—Chris Feauai-Sautia going over in the corner after a period of intense pressure from the Wallabies.
Australia were then reduced to 14 men after Rob Simmons was yellow-carded for throwing a punch.
Laidlaw's boot pulled it back to 18-15, only for Lealiifano to reassert a six-point lead with a penalty for the Wallabies.
A line-out infringement led to the chance for Australia, which Lealiifano converted to make it 21-15.
There were still almost 30 minutes to play, but neither team would add to the scoring.
Australia's win followed victories against Ireland and Italy. The tourists were beaten by England at Twickenham and also lost to the All Blacks in October.
Scotland's defeat followed a loss to South Africa last time out.
