We'll Boo, We'll Cheer, We'll Pay Eight Bucks For a Beer
Sports have become a billion dollar entity in this country. Television revenues and advertising generated from sporting events are astronomical. It’s hard to find a player who is not racking in millions of dollars these days. One thing is starting to be forgotten though, the fans. Without them, there are no huge television contracts, and Alex Rodriguez wouldn’t be able to buy a small country.
The fans are the true backbone of sports in America. They’re an example of what sports are suppose to be. A sports fans stick with his or her team through good times and bad. They don’t wish to be traded or refuse to go to work, and they definitely don’t drive Ferraris and Jaguars. As a matter of fact they will even sleep in their cars for World Series tickets
A sports fan has difficulties going to work on a Monday after their favorite football team loses on Sunday. That same sports fan still manages to wears a Tom Brady jersey to work on casual Friday.
They understand that they will never sit front row behind home plate, but also will be the ringleader of the party going on in the bleachers. Luxury boxes, comfy seats and restaurants mean nothing to a true sports fan. A real sports fan stands on a bench in the wind and the snow, even when their team is down by four touchdowns.
Its come to a point that one day the real sports fan will be forgotten. Gone will be the wave and chants of J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS, and instead will be replaced by a company CEO who knows only that a football is brown.
This article is being written from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, where 44,000 Philly fans saw their team defeat the Florida Marlins 5-2. Now that the game is over and the stadium is empty and overwhelming silence fills the air. In less then 24 hours though this place will come to life once again, and it has nothing to do with Ryan Howard or Chase Utley. Its cause of the sports fan.
