UFC 167 Results: Full Winners and Analysis for Fight Card

Joseph ZuckerNov 16, 2013

What a way to celebrate your 20th anniversary.

UFC turned 20 on Saturday night at UFC 167, and as you'd expect of such a momentous achievement, the card was packed with excitement from top to bottom. You had the big stars confirm their status in the company, while a couple of challengers got the chance to shine on a grand stage.

What more could you have asked for?

Here's a look at how the main card unfolded on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Ali Bagautinov Defeats Tim Elliott Via Unanimous Decision

1 of 5

Ali Bagautinov got off to a nice start in the first round, controlling the tempo and landing some nice shots on Tim Elliott.

Things quickly changed in the second, as Elliott nearly got Bagautinov in a guillotine, but Bagautinov was able to escape. Elliott was still able to get on top afterward and did some work on the ground, but he wasn't able to land any convincing blows.

The two exchanged some blows back and forth throughout the third round, then Elliott finished the fight with a violent takedown and a couple of more shots.

It wasn't enough for Elliott, however, as Bagautinov came away with the win by unanimous decision.

This is a huge win for Bagautinov. He won his first fight in the company back in September, a third-round knockout of Marcos Vinicius. But this victory is of a whole different level.

Elliott came into the night as the seventh-ranked flyweight.

Some might have wondered if Bagautinov was taking too quick a rise in the division. Maybe he needed to prove himself before challenging a fight the quality of Elliott.

However, the 28-year-old Russian has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's one of the emerging stars in the flyweight division.

Tyron Woodley Defeats Josh Koscheck Via Knockout

2 of 5

Josh Koscheck did not have the fight he was hoping for, as Tyron Woodley got to him quickly.

Woodley got to Koscheck multiple times in the first round, nearly ending him around three minutes into the round. The ref stood the two up, but it didn't matter, as Woodley knocked his opponent down once again in what was a simply dominating performance.

Although this fight won't boost Woodley's stock too much, it's a necessary result. After losing two of his past three fights and going 1-1 since entering UFC, Woodley needed a win like this just to prove that he's still there and has some potential.

This is the stepping stone to bigger and better things. Now that he's beat Koscheck, Woodley can fire up that push up the welterweight ladder.

Koscheck, on the other hand, is 35 years old and has now lost his past three fights. His time in UFC may be coming to a close very soon.

Robbie Lawler Defeats Rory MacDonald Via Split Decision

3 of 5

The first round went by without much action until the very end, with Robbie Lawler landing a couple of nice shots on Rory MacDonald.

Rory was able to get the first takedown of the night with around two minutes left in the second round. He stayed on top of Lawler for the rest of the round but wasn't able to get much done until the very end of the round.

Things got much more intense in the final round, with Lawler tagging and stunning Ares. He kept tagging MacDonald, and he kept knocking him down. However, Rory kept in there and went the distance, even doing some damage of his own at the end.

It wasn't enough, as Lawler came up with the split-decision win in what was a truly awesome fight.

This is a massive upset, to say the least. MacDonald came in with all the hype and all the momentum. This fight was looked at as a warm-up to his eventual title shot with Georges St-Pierre.

Then Lawler had to go and ruin all of that.

You can expect Lawler to take a major jump in the rankings. Although it may not be enough to warrant a fight against St-Pierre, Lawler will at least be getting some consideration down the road. This may be the biggest win of his career.

Rashad Evans Defeats Chael Sonnen Via TKO

4 of 5

Well, this one was quick.

Rashad Evans took control of Chael Sonnen, taking him down and getting on top of him. He started landing a couple of shots, then moved into the mount, landing a big elbow before starting to let loose.

Sonnen was unable to do anything, with Evans walking away with yet another win.

It's hard to see how Evans' stock is higher as a result of this win. Sonnen was ranked lower in the standings and has a lot more mileage on his body. He's clearly on the decline as a fighter.

This isn't the kind of fight that's immediately going to propel Evans back into the title hunt. He still has plenty of rungs left in the light heavyweight ladder.

For Sonnen, you have to wonder what's next. He has Wanderlei Silva as part of The Ultimate Fighter, but what could come after that? His days as a big draw look to be behind him.

Georges St-Pierre Defeats Johny Hendricks by Split Decision

5 of 5

It was the fight everyone was waiting for, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Georges St-Pierre started things off with an early takedown. He tried to take Johny Hendricks down again a little bit later, but some hard elbows made St-Pierre think otherwise.

The second round spelled big trouble for St-Pierre, as he got hit by a ton of big shots from Hendricks. Somehow he held on, then started landing some solid shots of his own.

Things started looking a lot different in the third round. Hendricks started to get tired and didn't bring as much force behind his blows. St-Pierre was able to land some more shots and got back in the fight.

A big slip by GSP was a huge mistake in the fourth round, with Hendricks getting on top and working the ground-and-pound, but he kept fighting. The fifth round featured little action, but GSP kept holding on despite a bloodied face, and he was named the winner by split decision.

Once again, the 32-year-old asserted his dominance over the competition. St-Pierre remains one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

This is his 12th win in a row and yet another display of St-Pierre's mastery. He managed to keep Hendricks at bay and do enough offensively to win the judges.

Who could possibly knock the king off his throne at this point?
