New Orleans Saints Top Offseason Moves
These are the Saints’ Top 6 Offseason Moves:
1. Acquiring Gregg Williams
Not long after the season ended, Gibbs was fired and Williams was signed. Gibbs tried to play a bend but don’t break style of defense even though the Saints gave up more big plays than any team. Gregg will bring more sacks and more interceptions, leading to more wins.

2. Re-signing Vilma
Vilma was the best defensive player in the '08 Season. It was his first year with the team and led the team in tackles. After acquiring Williams, it was top priority to re-sign the defensive stud.
3. Going all defense in the Draft
The Saints’ success in the draft I can consider one move. First, they picked Malcom Jenkins with the 14th overall pick. He was the top CB/S in the Draft. In the 4th round, they got two Wake Forest players Chip Vaughn and Arnoux.
Vaughn is a S with a rare combination of size (6-2, 225lbs) and speed (4.45). At his pro-day some scouts even had him at 4.36 (pretty fast for a guy of his size). Arnoux is already out for the season but showed some promise with his above average pass defending skills. Lastly, they picked a punter in the 5th round. A good, consistent punter can help out a defense more than most think. He can also kick but punting is his greater talent.
4. Signing Sharper
I love this signing. He is older in age but is there anyone better to learn from if you’re a defensive back? He was held back in his '08 numbers because of the scheme MIN played. Williams plans on letting him roam about and do what he does best: make interceptions! This move can really shore up an immature and costly secondary.
5. Signing Greer
This speedy, young CB should contribute right away. Known mostly for being one of the fastest CB in the NFL. He will be able to cover the more speedy receivers, like Steve Smith, and help cut down on giving up big plays. He will most likely start next to Porter or Jenkins.
6. Signing of two players that missed the '08 Season
This is a low risk, high reward situation. Morgan and Coleman are both players with injury problems and both missed the '08 season. Both were dominant in their prime and both say they are healthier than ever. It may be wishful thinking to hope for both to pull off comeback super star years but it is possible.
