Grand Slam of Darts 2013 Results: Predicting the Outcomes of Day 3's Matches
Day 3 of the Grand Slam of Darts will see Groups E-H reach their climax inside the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Monday night.
The action gets underway at 7 p.m. GMT with plenty still to play for.
Justin Pipe and Mark Walsh kick off the night’s proceedings, while Raymond van Barneveld will look to secure his passage through to the Round of 16 when he takes on Mervyn King.
The top two from each group will qualify for the knockout stages. Scott Waites, Phil Taylor, James Wade and Ronny Huybrechts have already advanced after winning their opening two contests.
With Groups A-D set to reach their conclusion Tuesday night, here’s a look at a full set of predictions for the final games in Group E-H.

Raymond van Barneveld vs. Mervyn King
Despite wining his opening two bouts, Van Barneveld will need to be wary of complacency against King.
The Dutchman sits atop of Group E with four points from four, but if he suffers a heavy defeat against King, and Tony O’Shea can come through comfortably against Ricky Evans, then Van Barneveld could be in trouble.
It’s a lot of “ifs” and “buts,” however, and it will be a big upset if the reigning champion fails to advance.
Michael Smith vs. Ted Hankey
Hankey kept things interesting in Group H when he unexpectedly saw off Dave Chisnall. The man known as “The Count” defeated “Chizzy” 5-3 on Sunday, and he will seek another upset Monday against Smith.
It will be a case of winner takes all in the Group H clash. With 2010 champion Scott Waites already through, it is left to Smith and Hankey, who both sit on two points, to battle it out for the second qualification spot.
Simon Whitlock vs. Wes Newton
In arguably the pick of Monday’s contests, 2012 European Champion and sixth seed Whitlock will look to book his place in the Sweet 16 when he faces off against world No. 8 Newton.
Whitlock currently sits atop of Group G on four points with both Newton and Mark Webster two points back in second and third.
A win for Webster over Smith in the earlier game will heap pressure on the group’s two highest-ranked players before they go head to head in the penultimate tie of the night.
Andy Hamilton vs. Robert Thornton
Andy Hamilton is another of the top guys who still has one final hurdle to jump in order to reach the next round.
The No. 7 seed got his tournament off to a ropey start on Saturday with a loss to wild-card qualifier Justin Pipe, before bouncing back against Mark Walsh in his second match.
Thornton currently sits atop Group F with four points while Hamilton and Pipe lie second and third with two.
Both Thornton and Hamilton will know exactly what needs to be done when they take the stage, as Pipe takes on Walsh, who sits at the bottom, in the opening bout of the night.
