Premier League Scores Week 11: Recapping Biggest Action from Saturday's Fixtures

Joseph ZuckerNov 9, 2013

It was yet another action-packed day of Premier League football.

Only one match on Saturday finished 0-0, with the other five combining to have 19 goals. There were also plenty of intriguing developments, whether they be controversial refereeing decisions, managers getting closer to the axe, or Norwich City winning their first league match in over a month.

Here are the full results from Saturday's slate of fixtures.

Chelsea Snatch Late Draw vs. West Brom

All of the talk about Saturday's matches will almost certainly focus on Andre Marriner's penalty decision in second-half injury time that allowed Chelsea to draw 2-2 with West Brom.

Almost any way you look at it, it's a terrible call. Ramires leans into Steven Reid, and then goes to ground. It was a 50-50 ball, which Reid won.

While giving the Brazilian midfielder a yellow card for diving would've been harsh, at the very least, Marriner should've waved play on and denied Chelsea's penalty shouts.

You can't blame Ramires, since he's doing whatever it takes to get a result. It's up to Marriner to make the right call.

That decision took attention away from what was another poor Chelsea performance.

Petr Cech was to blame for Stephane Sessegnon's goal in the 68th minute, and the Blues' attack was ineffective for the most part. Jose Mourinho has some questions to answer about his squad selection, as well.

Cardiff City Continue Downward Slide

Things are quickly going south for Malky Mackay and Cardiff City. The second Norwich or some other Premier League job opens up, he should be getting the resume updated. Normally I wouldn't advocate a manager abandoning his club, but most managers aren't put into the position that Mackay is.

Yes, Vincent Tan has spent the money, but as the Guardian's Daniel Taylor established, the owner isn't afraid to meddle in areas of the club where he has no business. And now it's starting to adversely affect the club on the pitch.

Cardiff have one win in their last five matches after a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. This was a Villa side that hadn't scored a goal in 451 minutes before Leandro Bacuna found the back of the net in the 76th minute, via OptaJoe:

With fixtures against Manchester United and Arsenal, things may not getting better anytime soon for Cardiff.

Signs of Things to Come for Fulham and Hull City?

The performances of Fulham and Hull City were equally shocking in how poor they were. Both sides conceded four goals apiece, with Hull at least able to counter with a goal of their own.

Should Stoke City win on Sunday, the Cottagers will be in the relegation zone. It's not what many had in mind with Fulham, but considering how awful their defense has been, it cannot be too much of a surprise by this point in the season. Fulham never looked in it against Liverpool, and once they got down 1-0, they gave up and had almost no fightback.

The Cottagers have a very real relegation fight on their hands.

While the situation is not as dire for Hull City, it could become so soon. The Tigers have now lost three of their last four matches, following that 4-1 defeat to Southampton. Hull have had a hard time scoring this year, and now it appears the defense may be showing signs of weakness. They were bossed around from start to finish against the Saints, despite the best efforts of Victor Wanyama.

For those who are buying into Hull City's quick start, don't forget the Tigers were up to third after nine matches in 2008/09, only to finish a point above relegation.
