A Busy Summer Awaits Arsene Wenger
It's reported that Wenger has a transfer kitty of around £13m. The coming season will more or less depend on how well he uses his transfer kitty. Last season highlighted a few crucial things –
1. Flamini has not been replaced; Song and Denilson are not good enough; Diaby likes to attack, so cannot be played as a defensive midfielder.
2. We don’t have a tall enough defender.

3. Sylvester is not the kind of backup defender we need.
4. Is Adebayor motivated enough to play for Arsenal?
It is difficult to buy two quality defenders, one excellent midfielder and one goalkeeper with £13m in your pocket. Wenger has to find a solution and the solution has to be from within, as his transfer budget is not going to improve much.
Only time will tell if Wenger is willing to change this team big time because some well known faces will have to go. Adebayor, Gallas, Denilson, Eboue and Senderos will have to be sold to generate much-needed funds.
Approximately £40m can be generated by the sale of the above-mentioned players. Add £13m to this and this gives you £53m to spend.
£16m-18m for one of Alonso/Barry/Veloso could be a decent buy. Around 10m for Hangeland and 6m-7m for another young defender should solve our defensive problems. Rest of the funds could be used in getting a good striker viz. Dzeko or Santacruz.
Another option could be to sell Adebayor to Manchester City and get Kompany plus £12m. That would solve our defensive midfielder problem and would also give us a good back up defender. Again £10m for Hangeland and rest of the money garnered from sale of other player to be used for getting a striker and a back up defender.
There are many permutations and combinations for Wenger to try. This time the fans are looking for some summer action and unlike previous seasons, Wenger will have to have a busy summer.
