Show: Game On Dude (8-5)

Game On Dude comes into this race as the favorite, but the gelding will be hard-pressed to win with such a stacked field surrounding him. This six-year-old isn’t a stranger to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, having run it the past two years without a win.

The Bob Baffert-trained horse mustered a meager seventh-place finish in 2012, disappointing the many backers that installed him as a favorite due to his then undefeated record at Santa Anita.

It is worth mentioning that the son of Awesome Again did come in second during the 2011 running of this race and has won six straight starts coming into Saturday’s $5 million stakes, but this veteran just doesn’t have what it takes to become the outright winner in his third attempt.

Place: Mucho Macho Man (5-1)

After coming up a half-length short to Fort Larned in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, Mucho Macho Man is back and looking for vengeance.

Coming out of the No. 6 post with Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens aboard, this promising colt has every reason to believe he can come away with a first-place finish in 2013.

If he can get a hot start—and that will be easy considering this horse is one of the fastest out of the gates—the Katherine Ritvo-trained competitor will be right in the thick of things down the stretch.

Unfortunately, Mucho Macho Man’s five-year-old season isn’t going to end with that coveted win—largely due to the presence of one superior horse in the field.

Let’s take a look at which runner that is and why you should bet on it to win the Classic on Saturday.

Win: Palace Malice (10-1)

Palace Malice has been one of the most intriguing colts of 2013. He came into the spotlight with decent expectations at the Kentucky Derby, but left the Run for the Roses with a mere 12th-place finish.

Todd Pletcher made the call to hold Palace Malice out of the Preakness, using the extra time to train and prepare the horse for the much-longer Belmont Stakes. It paid off in a big way, as the duo—along with jockey John Velazquez—won the third jewel of the Triple Crown in stunning fashion.

It’s clear that this big, strong colt is an absolute winner that will excel on the 1-1/4-mile track at Santa Anita—which is just a shade shorter than the 1.5-mile run that the Test of the Champion employs.

With Palace Malice’s speed and immense talent, there is no doubt that the three-year-old will run away with a big victory in the Classic on Saturday night.
