Breeders' Cup 2013 Start Times: Schedule for Series' Remaining Races
One day of races at Santa Anita Park is in the books, but there are plenty of more events left at the 2013 Breeders' Cup.
Friday's races warmed the pallet for this year's showcase of the best horses, many of whom will later go on to strut their stuff in a Triple Crown event.
While the Breeders' Cup does not quite garner the prestige of a Triple Crown running, the two-day bonanza showcases a frenzy of horses while swapping much more cash.
Jockey Mike Smith fared well on Friday, riding London Bridge to a victory in the Marathon event and Outstrip to a first-place finish in the Juvenile Turf. He'll have a chance to compile even more accolades on a grander stage.
Here's what in store on Saturday, which will flaunt eight races leading up the grand finale: the Breeders' Cup Classic.

The main event exhibits a couple of Triple Crown competitors who aren't even favored, but those inside the loop care much more about the $5 million at stake.
That's a lot of money.
Because former Major League Baseball manager Joe Torre didn't win enough with the New York Yankees, he owns another juggernaut looking to embark on a dynasty in Game On Dude, which is a way cooler name than Andy Pettitte or Derek Jeter.
After finishing seventh in last year's Classic, Game On Dude has since won all of his six starts since the lackluster finish. And Game On Dude's jockey? Mike Smith, who switched from 2013 Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice, who is also part of the Classic's field.
But the field of 12 has now decreased to 11, as trainer Bill Mott pulled Ron the Greek out of the race due to a quarter crack, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal's Jennie Rees. Mott's horse won the handicap and sported 8-1 odds before exiting the picture.
Mott spoke about the issue to Bill Dwyre and Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times:
"He's never had foot issues before in his life," Mott said. "He had a strong gallop yesterday and he must have just bumped the heel of his foot wrong and he got an abscess in the bulb of his heel."
Plenty of competition remains in Fort Larned and Mucho Macho Man, who galloped to a photo finish in last year's classic that Fort Larned won by a slight edge. After winning the Preakness States with long-shot Oxbow, Gary Stevens will now ride Mucho Macho Man in hopes of thwarting Fort Larned's attempt at a repeat.
With nobody's odds towering above 20-1, the pack remains wide open for what should be another closely contested race. Game On Dude, six, and Fort Larned, five, are also older than most winners of the 1 1/4-mile race. Perhaps Will Take Charge can live up to the moniker after lulling behind in each Triple Crown event.
Or perhaps Declaration of War, a trendy sleeper whose odds stand at 10-1, will win the battle. There are roughly three hours of bouts to watch on NBC Sports before shifting over to the main draw on NBC, but the Classic has all the makings to steal the show.
