Real Madrid Attack Fires on All Cylinders in Gareth Bale's First Home Start

Joe TanseyOct 30, 2013

Real Madrid fans finally got to see their prized possession from the summer transfer window start a match at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

While Gareth Bale did steal the headlines in the first half with two goals, it was the entire Los Blancos attack that would steal the spotlight by the time the final whistle was blown.

Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and Karim Benzema lined up in the attacking part of the 4-2-3-1, and by the time the match was over, the quartet combined for seven goals and four assists.

Benzema and Bale combined on the first goal of the match in the 13th minute as the former Tottenham player curled the ball into the left corner of the net past Sevilla keeper Beto.

Bale was back at it in his first home start in the 27th minute, when his free kick took a generous bounce off the head of a Sevilla defender and beat Beto to hand Los Blancos a two-goal lead.

Isco played his part in the attacking offensive in the 32nd minute, when he earned a penalty, which on further review was wrongly called because the midfielder was outside of the box and went to ground quite easily.

Despite the criticism calling for no penalty to be given, the hosts converted on their chance from the spot as Ronaldo, not to be outdone by his fellow Galatico, slotted home his first of three goals on the night.

After Ronaldo's first goal, the Real Madrid defense saw a rough patch of defensive misery that saw the visitors score twice, once on a penalty, in a 60-second span.

With a potential Sevilla comeback still in the cards at halftime, it was the unlikeliest of goalscorers that shifted the momentum back to the Real Madrid side.

Benzema found the back of the net in the 53rd minute on the counter attack after a pass from Bale found the Frenchman's feet.

Ronaldo would take his deserved spotlight away from Bale with two second-half goals that would put away Sevilla for good and mimic FIFA President Sepp Blatter in the process.

In the 74th minute, Sevilla had a chance to make the final 15 minutes of the match a nervous bout for the hosts, but Ivan Rakitic sent his penalty shot soaring over the net.

Once you thought the scoring was over, Benzema added the extra point in the 80th minute with his second goal of the match.

With seven goals finding the back of the net on Wednesday night, Real Madrid announced to the world, not just La Liga title rivals Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, that they have an attack that can unleash a fury of goals in any match they play this season.

We did expect Ronaldo and Bale to deliver quality performance after quality performance once the Welshman got healthy, but no one expected Benzema to burst out of his scoring drought once Bale fought off the injury bug for good as well.

Asking the trio of attackers to stay healthy for an entire season is a big ask, especially with Bale, but if they can to shell the opposing net with goals all season, they could produce an historic scoring tally that would leave us all in awe.
