Date: Monday, Oct. 28

Time: 8:07 p.m. ET

TV: FOX

Location: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Mo.

Red Sox Starting Pitcher: Jon Lester (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

Cardinals Starting Pitcher: Adam Wainwright (0-1, 5.40 ERA)

While some may point to the fact that only 26 teams of the 40 that have won a tie-breaking Game 5 have gone on to win the World Series, there is no denying that this one is make-or-break, especially for the Cardinals.

If St. Louis fails to win their final home game, they will be faced with a two-game road trip in Boston where the Red Sox would need to win just a single game in order to be crowned champions.

Considering Boston was the best regular season team at home—going 53-28 at Fenway Park—it will be extremely tough for the Cardinals to pull off the upset with their backs against the wall.

Pitching is going to be the key storyline here, as Lester completely dominated in his first World Series start. The veteran left-hander moved to 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA during the 2013 postseason and didn’t allow a single run in 7.2 innings in Game 1, a contest Boston won 8-1.

Despite his measly numbers in Game 1, Wainwright is still an ace and one of the best pitchers in the major leagues. He’s 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA, which went up after he lost Game 1 and gave up five runs, three of them earned, in five innings.

When pitching in St. Louis, the right-hander has been practically unbeatable in the postseason. He has gone 4-0 in four starts, with the most recent coming in a 6-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in a clinching Game 5 of the NLDS.

Expect a low-scoring game, as both teams will struggle to get hits against these elite starting pitchers. Whichever side ends up putting more lumber on the ball will likely be the victorious one.

Prediction: Cardinals 2 – Red Sox 1
