Monday Night Football Schedule 2013: Predicting Every Remaining MNF Contest

Mike ChiariOct 28, 2013

The Monday Night Football slate has certainly been a mixed bag this season, as there have been some nail-biters such as the New York Jets narrow victory over the Atlanta Falcons a few weeks ago, but there have also been some train wrecks, including the New York Giants' sloppy win against the Minnesota Vikings last week.

Even though Monday Night Football doesn't necessarily showcase the best game of the week like it used to, there is still a great deal of excitement surrounding the product. There are nine games remaining on the MNF schedule this season, and although it will probably be a roller-coaster ride in terms of game quality, each and every contest figures to be meaningful in some way.

Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams

This week's game will feature an NFC clash between the first-place Seattle Seahawks and last-place St. Louis Rams. The Rams gave Seattle a great deal of trouble last season as they went 1-1, with both games being decided by seven points or less. Prior to last week's happenings, most probably figured that this would be a tight game in St. Louis, but that seems quite unlikely at this point.

The Rams have been and up-and-down team this season, but the play of quarterback Sam Bradford has been pretty steady. He wasn't dominant by any means, but he appeared as though he was taking steps toward living up to his stats as a No. 1 overall selection in the NFL draft.

Unfortunately for the Rams, though, Bradford suffered a torn ACL last week, which means he will miss the rest of the season. Enter backup Kellen Clemens, who the St. Louis coaching staff has expressed a great deal of confidence in, according to the Rams' official Twitter account:

While the Rams may be outwardly confident, the true feeling is probably much different. Clemens has proved to be a subpar NFL quarterback over the years, and the Seahawks arguably boast the best defense in football. The Rams don't have a great running game to fall back on either, as rookie running back Zac Stacy is a bit of a plodder.

With that in mind, expect the Seahawks to throttle the Rams in Week 8.

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers

It can be argued that the biggest Monday Night Football game of the year will take place next week as the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers will write yet another chapter in their storied rivalry.

Chicago vs. Green Bay is always a huge deal, but that is especially true when the game takes place at Lambeau Field and both teams are battling for the division lead. The NFC North is really bunched up near the top this season, and while the Bears looked like a definite threat to win the division, that may no longer be the case.

Chicago suffered a critical loss last week as quarterback Jay Cutler was forced to leave the game in a loss to the Washington Redskins. Cutler got sacked on what looked like a harmless play, but he ended up tearing a groin muscle, which will keep him out of commission for at least a month, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

That means journeyman backup Josh McCown will have to take the reins under center. He has an excellent complement of weapons in the form of Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett, but he simply doesn't possess the same natural talent as Cutler. Marc Trestman's offense will likely be more deliberate in Cutler's absence, and it will certainly be less explosive.

The Packers happen to have one of the best signal-callers in the world on their side in the form of Aaron Rodgers, and his presence should be enough to lead Green Bay to victory.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Washington Redskins

In terms of overall intrigue, the Monday night meeting between the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins in Week 12 is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.

The Niners have righted the ship after a rocky patch early in the season, and the 'Skins are playing much better football as well since an 0-3 start. Washington has an uphill climb when it comes to making a playoff run, but it could be in position to contend by Week 12 assuming it continues to improve.

The biggest reason why the Redskins are a threat again is the play of quarterback Robert Griffin III. While RG3 showed a great deal of toughness by getting himself ready to play in Week 1, he clearly wasn't 100 percent recovered from the knee injury he suffered in the playoffs last season.

Griffin may still be dealing with the effects to a certain extent, but he appears much more confident since the team's bye week. That has been evident based on his willingness to run, which ESPN Stats & Info broke down prior to his Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos:

The 49ers have a dual-threat quarterback in their own right in the form of Colin Kaepernick. While Kaepernick hasn't been as explosive as he was in the playoffs last year, he has the ability to bust out at any time. Washington's main issues this season have come on the defensive side of the ball, and if Kaepernick and Frank Gore continue to run the ball well, the 'Skins will have a very difficult time in this game.

Based on how the next few weeks go, San Francisco can potentially deal a knockout blow to Washington's season.
