EPL Week 9 Scores: Results with Biggest Impacts on Premier League Table
There was a shakeup near the top of the English Premier League table on Saturday, as Southampton continued their ascension to prominence.
The Saints notched a 2-0 victory over Fulham, leaping several teams in the standings as a result. The most surprising team in the EPL this season improved to 5-3-1 and secured third place in the standings.
Southampton is now just four points behind first-place Arsenal, who they play on Sunday, Nov. 23.

While the Saints jump from seventh to third was the most impressive move on Saturday, the following results also had major impacts on the table.
Crystal Palace 0-2 Arsenal
This game was a mess at times, as Crystal Palace started without a permanent manager and Arsenal finished with 10 men.
In between, the Gunners scored two goals to fend off Liverpool and remain atop the EPL standings.
Mikel Arteta started the scoring with a penalty kick in the 47th. He received a red card less than 20 minutes later, and Crystal Place had a glimmer of hope.
However, Olivier Giroud crushed that in the 87th, sealing the 2-0 victory to ensure Arsenal stayed in first place.
Manchester United 3-2 Stoke City
It was far from pretty, but Manchester United recorded their second victory of the week after their back-and-forth battle against Peter Crouch and Stoke City.
Crouch struck early, putting Stoke ahead in the fourth minute. Robin Van Persie answered about 40 minutes later, but Stoke's Marko Arnautovic gave Stoke the lead again in the 45th.
Luckily for United, Wayne Rooney ('78) and Javier Hernandez ('80) delivered clutch goals to earn three much-needed points for the club.
The disappointing squad is still in eighth place, but they are now just two points behind Tottenham and Man City, as well as three points behind Chelsea.
If they handle Fulham on Nov. 2 and earn at least a draw eight days later against Arsenal, David Moyes and Co. will be in a good position.
