WWE Hell in a Cell 2013: Feuds That Deserve the Biggest Spotlight at the Event
As WWE builds up to its annual Hell in a Cell main event later this month, expect the company to go all-out promoting the rivalries and matches on the show in an attempt to make up for the disappointment of last Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view.
Hopefully, the main event matches will actually, you know, have a finish this time around.
So, going into the event, which feuds should receive special attention from management?
In order of their potential and importance on the card, here are the top five rivalries that particularly deserve a spotlight on October 27.
5. R-Truth vs. Curtis Axel
1 of 5
Following this week’s Raw, which saw R-Truth team with CM Punk to take on Ryback and Curtis Axel, it looks like R-Truth vs. Axel is set to be the next long-term intercontinental title feud.
Yes, after several months on the sidelines, R-Truth is finally being given a shot by WWE. Ideally, Axel will use this program to reclaim some of his lost momentum as well.
Granted, it doesn’t exactly scream “red-hot feud” on paper, but if WWE puts the proper time and effort into this storyline, it could mean something.
4. The Miz vs. Bray Wyatt
2 of 5
WWE teased a feud between The Miz and Bray Wyatt on Monday’s Raw. It makes sense: Miz needs a fresh opponent—he can’t keep fighting Fandango, after all—and Wyatt desperately requires a long-term feud to establish himself. He’s been treading water ever since he debuted in July.
Due to these issues, the company should make the effort with this new rivalry and not just treat it as a throwaway midcard match. It’s a chance for both men to gain some much-needed standing.
3. The Rhodes Brothers vs. the Shield
3 of 5
Following the show-stealing tag match between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns and Cody and Dustin Rhodes at Battleground, the two sides clashed again on Monday’s Raw (with Daniel Bryan and Dean Ambrose thrown in, too) in another fantastic, high-paced bout.
Following on from this, could the Rhodes brothers defeat Rollins and Reigns for the tag team belts at Hell in a Cell?
Hey, it seems to be the natural progression of this storyline, and it's more than time for Rollins and Reigns to drop the belts to a new team (they won the titles from Team Hell No in May.)
2. Triple H vs. the Big Show
4 of 5
On Raw, The Big Show finally stood up to The Corporation, delivering a killer punch to evil boss Triple H as the show ended.
Following on from this development, and with Big Show's storyline firing, it seems inevitable these two will clash again, and that Triple H will return to the ring to put the giant in his place once and for all—maybe even as soon as Hell in a Cell.
Considering it is the culmination of an angle that’s been going on for ages, expect the company to make a very big deal of this match.
1. Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena
5 of 5
As announced by Vickie Guerrero, John Cena is coming back from injury to face Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at Hell in a Cell.
This news has, of course, sent shock waves throughout the entire wrestling industry—the star wasn’t expected back from his triceps injury for many more months—but the greater issue may be whether WWE can make a random-sounding Del Rio-Cena feud worth watching.
Let’s hope so, because it would be such a shame to squander the wrestler’s big return on a programme that never truly gets off the ground.
