Cincinnati Reds Hit Skid Row
I turned on the TV to discover that Darnell McDonald would be starting in left field. That’s when I knew I wouldn’t have a problem missing the game to watch some high school district tournament baseball.
Apparently, I made the right choice. Instead of subtracting days or months (maybe even years) off of my life span, I was able to avoid the heartache of watching "Ronald" McDonald go 0-fer last night. Again I ask, why is he on this team?
As much as it hurts to even know that they lost, it’s far less devastating when I haven’t invested two or more hours of my life to watching it happen.
The Reds continue to be satisfied playing hurt.
Joey Votto is still undergoing tests to see what is wrong with him.
Alex Gonzalez is clearly not 100 percent and Edwin Encarnacion will remain on the DL for a while.
Nick Masset was placed on the DL and the Reds decided to call up Ramon Ramirez, who many argue, wasn’t the best option. Concerning Ramon Ramirez though, there are good arguments for calling him up, so I’m not so upset about that one.
But whether they play McDonald or not, the Reds might as well be another man down, since David Weathers could do what he does at the plate and still manage to catch a few fly balls in left field.
I don’t want to play copycat off of the other blogs, but I can’t help but agree that McDonald should be designated for assignment and Johnny Gomes (.281/.357/.578/.935) should be called up in his place.
Not only can Gomes platoon left field with Laynce Nix, but he can also fill in at first base.
In my last entry, I wrote that the Reds are staring at their greatest adversity in the face right now.
However, I believe now they are staring logic in the face as well. Unfortunately, it seems they are choosing to go in the other direction.
What do you think?
