Survivor/Suicide Football and Pick 'Em Leagues
The majority of our attention on our Bruno Boys website is focused around your typical fantasy football league, which would include a set number of teams selecting individual offensive players and seeing who can generate the most points during the season.
But since the emergence of fantasy football there has been the addition of two other types of league formats that have quickly risen to the forefront, and those would be survivor football, which is also known as suicide football, and pick 'em leagues.
Both are fun and quick alternatives to the traditional fantasy football league. In this segment we'll run down the rules for each type of league and strategies on how to stay ahead of your competition in these formats.

Pick 'Em Leagues
In Pick 'Em leagues the goal is quite simple. Each week you are presented with a list of that week's match ups and you simply pick who you think will be the winner in each game.
At the end of the season the person with the most correct picks is the winner. Sounds easy, right? Well some people make it more complicated than it should be and end up agonizing over each pick as if they just laid down their life savings on a bet for it.
Picking winners can be difficult especially if you don't know much about the teams, their tendencies and their history. But there are plenty of tools here at the Bruno Boys that can help make those picks for you.
One of biggest tools to look at is our weekly player rankings. Sure Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is one of the better fantasy football quarterbacks around but how does he project against the Philadelphia Eagles defense?
Simply check our rankings that week and you can begin to form a better idea of what to expect from Romo and the Cowboys. We also have our weekly Sit 'Em, Start 'Em articles talking about players who should have good weeks and others who should have bad ones.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer is a good player, but if the Pittsburgh Steelers are in town that means not many points will be scored and thus Palmer is not a good start that week.
And if Palmer isn't a good start that week, then the Bengals probably aren't a good pick that week either.
There are other things to consider when making selections in a Pick 'Em league. When evaluating a matchup, consider the recent history between those two teams. Division teams play each other twice a season so there is plenty of history to go off there.
Another thing to consider is team tendencies. Look at dome teams that are playing on the road in inclement weather, West Coast teams playing the early game on the East Coast when it's just 10:00 a.m. in their actual time zone, Southern teams playing on the road in November and December and more.
Between our site and some quick background research on teams you will have more than enough information to make your picks and do well in your league.

Survivor/Suicide Football
Survivor football, also known as suicide leagues, is a pick 'em-style fantasy football league where you pick just one match up each week. It sounds easy but the catch is that once you've made a successful pick, you cannot select that team again for the rest of the season.
The league keeps going until one winner is crowned, or will continue into the playoffs if multiple users remain alive and will split the championship if there is no universal winner. With the first incorrect pick you are out of the league, which is part of what makes it so fun.
Thus, the week one game featuring the Detroit Lions at the New Orleans Saints may sound like an easy pick, and it is. The Lions should be no trouble for the Saints. But considering that the Saints should be a decent team this season and Detroit is one of the worst, is that a pick you want to waste in the first week? Of course not.
You don't want to waste the first couple weeks of the season picking gimmes, only to be left with a bunch of tough divisional games later in the season.
A lot of people think the key to winning these leagues is to evaluate easy match ups each week before the season starts and pick them when the time comes around, but the truth is that kind of thinking can hurt you.
Once the season starts there are so many things that change like injuries, suspensions and unexpected good or bad play that it's impossible to pick out individual games during the preseason or earlier.
The Miami Dolphins only won one game in 2007 then were division champs last year despite not making huge moves in the offseason, and they provide a good example of not evaluating a team or game too early based off last year's success.
Lastly, every week will be a tough pick in survivor football. That's the nature of the game and what makes it exciting. Past the first couple of weeks there are no easy picks so don't feel overwhelmed if it's week eight and you can't decide who to pick between five different games.
The majority of survivor football players often find themselves in this same exact position.
While research and knowledge of the teams and players can help you in survivor football, you've also got to have some luck on your side to win. The rest, we can help you with.
