Top Storyline: Will Terrel Hunt Continue to Soar?
After two lackluster performances from senior Drew Allen against Penn State and Northwestern to begin the season, Syracuse coach Scott Shafer announced that he would be opening up the quarterback competition.
Sophomore Terrel Hunt certainly showed he was a capable quarterback against Wagner. Then again, Wagner doesn't even show up in the FCS rankings. Hunt must prove that he is more than just a quarterback who took advantage of inferior competition last week. He must prove he can play against the big boys.
No. 3 Clemson would count as one of the big boys. The Orange host Clemson in Week 6 after a bye, but Hunt must take care of business against Tulane first.
Prediction: Syracuse 30, Tulane 17
Syracuse has more balance on offense, particularly with the boost Hunt has provided.
Tulane quarterback Nick Montana, Joe Montana's son, has played relatively well for Tulane, but the Green Wave generally struggle to push the ball on the ground, averaging 2.91 yards per carry (112th in the nation). That will be no different against a Syracuse unit that is allowing 2.8 yards per carry this year (15th in the country).
The son of Joe Montana can only do so much. Syracuse will limit Tulane offensively while riding the momentum at home.
