What a Busy Boy! Jenson Still Makes Time To Support Worthy Causes
As some people may know, last year Jenson Button took up competing in triathlons. These events offered Jens a chance of competing in a far more equal race (as opposed to his dismal 2008 season).
Whereas at the races his RA108 was defenceless against Ferrari and McLaren, at a triathlon event the only thing that could stop the Brit was his own physical limits.
Last year Jens took part in the amateur Sevenoaks event and finished an impressive 16th out of 250 competitors! He also took part in the Olympic-distance Nokia Royal Windsor event where he finished 117th out of 1700.
As he says on his charity Web site he will be a little bit more busy this year and so is limited in the number of events he can take part in. However, the five-time race winner and current leader of the 2009 World Drivers Championship has made time for a very worthy cause.
This week Jens announced he that he will be taking part in the 2009 London event to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation (which Jenson is a patron of). The event includes a tough 1500-metre swim, a 40-kilometre bike ride and a 10-kilometre run and will take place on August 1 (at the city’s ExCeL centre).
The charity makes dreams a reality for young people fighting life-threatening illnesses (Jens has already raised £ 4,195.22). On his charity Web site, Jenson states “It is a real privilege to be involved with them. The kids are so inspirational and hopefully we can raise enough money to fulfil as many of their dreams as possible.”
Jenson has even got two Brawn Race engineers to take part in the accompanied half distance event. Jens may have won nearly every race this season so far, but he is less optimistic when it comes to triathlons! Still, of the 11,000 competitors, he is aiming to finish in the top 10 percent; good luck Jenson!
I just wanted to put this article out there to illustrate what a genuinely nice and committed man Jenson is. Good luck Jenson, and what a worthy cause.
