The Questions We All Want (and Dont Want) To Say To Brett Favre
As I walked down to my television Thursday morning and clicked over to ESPN, I'd hoped see something about the Minnesota Twins the previous night, as third baseman Joe Crede hit a towering grand slam in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game for Minnesota.
But to my dismay, as I've had to endure for the past two weeks, the Brett Favre watch was on in full swing, going over the options that Brett could be thinking, or what Minnesota might do, or what Mike Holmgren says about the matter, or what Brad Childress says about the matter, or what Minnesota Governor Tim Pa...why did they ask for Minnesota Governor Pawlenty's opinion?

Has this issue really melted the media to this degree? Asking for a politician's view on the possible choice of a pro football player?! Is it taking over television, radio, and the Internet with a virus of Brett Favre news that could just turn out to be nothing?
I completely understand that with the current issue with Favre's injury and his possibilities in Minnesota, he needs to make a careful decision, but still. I speak for everyone in the sports world when I say that Favre owes it to fans, critics, and sportsmen (and women) around the world to not keep us hanging after last year's stint...
Well, if he were here right now, I'd probably have quite a bit to ask him...
Why have you been keeping this whole deal quiet, Brett?
It's interesting how the one question we'd all want to ask him is the most irrelevant to the whole issue of coming out of retirement. Brett almost enjoys this from, what we can tell. He's made it obvious and clear that he's waiting for something. We can only guess what it is.
Why are you working out at Oak Grove High School if you're supposedly "retired?"
I guess Brett could just as easily say he loves football, and what's wrong with him throwing footballs to high school kids? Absolutely nothing.
Why did you announce your retirement from the New York Jets and then ask to be released? What's the point?
Brett would definitely ease the collective mind of the football and sports world if he answered that question directly. Unless you have an agenda, you have no reason to ask for an unconditional release (which he asked for twice from the Jets). Once you're retired, you're done, and likewise, he should be tending his farm in Mississippi during the '09 season.
Why did you add—and I quote—"At this time," to your statement once the Jets released you? Couldn't you just as well have said 'I'm not returning' and not make it seem as though you left that on intentionally? Wait...did you say it intentionally?
That statement seems to have been the most over-examined sound bite from Favre in recent history (recent history being the last two weeks). Favre easily could have avoided a media circus by just leaving those three words out, but he didn't. Whether intentional or not, it's obvious that "at this time" he definitly is reconsidering retirement.
Why send your X-rays to the Vikings medical staff if you've made your stance clear that you're retired and that you're done?
Okay, so once this happened, I'm pretty sure everyone imploded a little after we almost believed that he was done and retired after he told Minnesota, "No." But the fact remains that once he sent those X-rays to the Vikings, he had opened the Pandora's box of the media once again, and the idiocy continued.
And even if he wants to go to Minnesota...
Do you think the players in Minnesota are questioning your loyalty? Should they have any reason to?
Minnesota linebacker Chad Greenway has made such a question already clear: How can anyone trust Brett at this point? After two fallouts with his two prior teams in two years, how can any team feel comfortable handing him the reigns? Especially one that is keen on making a Super Bowl run?
Have you heard what players in Minnesota have said about you, both good and bad?
Two key players to the Vikings offense, Bernard Berrian and Adrian Peterson, have expressed their desire to see Favre in purple. Heck, Jared Allen went on NFL Network saying it would be an "honor" to play on the same field with the guy! Obviously, most of the Vikings have a positive outlook.
Two players beyond Greenway that would be uncomfortable with Favre becoming a Vikings would be the QBs that were/are set to duel it out for the starting job in training camp, Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson.
Last but, not least, I would ask...
Brett, was this your and Childress' plan all along?
Okay, so that sounds a bit harsh, but shouldn't Brett answer it at some point whether someone asks or not? Favre has put in near 20 years of service to the NFL and for that we honor him, but all the same, we hold him accountable.
Everyone wants to know this answer, even more then any of the others. But for now, we have to live in the void, as Brett Favre pulls our strings like marionettes with every move he makes.
What question would you ask him? (Leave it below.)
