My 10 Questions For Vince Young

Gregory AriasMay 12, 2009

Vince Young has been described in many ways, electric, dynamic, and athletic were all terms that were used to describe Young after his incredible performance against USC in the Rose Bowl in January 2006.

Young, drafted third overall in the 2006 NFL draft by the Titans became an almost instant success story in Tennessee when, in Week Six of his rookie season Young lead the Titans to their first win of the season, on the road against the Washington Redskins after opening the season losing their first five games.

Young would remain the starter and the Titans went on to win eight of the final 11 regular season games and barely missing the playoffs. Young finished the season winning eight of the 13 games he started, though his individual numbers were nothing to brag about.

Hopes were high for Young and the Titans entering the 2007 season. Young worked hard during the offseason to improve parts of his game and the team finished with a 10-6 record, making the playoff before losing in the first round to the San Diego Chargers.

Young made the Pro-Bowl as an alternate and went to Hawaii leaving hopes and expectations for 2008 at an all time high.

Then came the start of the 2008 season, and if hopes were high in 2007 those were nothing compared to these where both Young and the Titans were expected to take the next step both Young as a player and the Titans as a team within the division and the AFC.

The Titans as a team took that step, Vince Young didn't.

In Week One, at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Young, who had been inconsistent at best through the first three quarters went down with an apparent leg injury, that set off a chain of strange events that cost Young both his starting job and most of the remainder of the season.

There was wide spread discussion about Young's apparent refusal to go back into the game although from most every ones view he did not seem seriously injured. He was then seen being carted out of the locker room to his vehicle and being driven away by a member of the teams staff.

A few days later it was reported both locally and nationally that Young might be suicidal and was riding around alone, possibly with a weapon, which prompted the team to involve the police in an attempt to locate Young.

Many stories and speculations would follow these strange chain of events and Young for the most part would remain silent and spent the next few week allegedly rehabbing and only once, on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit against the Lions in a Titans blowout did Young again play in a game.

There were times when during the course of games that the offense would be huddled around as a group discussing the game with offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, but Young was not involved, or even close to the group.

Stories told of friction between Young, some coaches and Kerry Collins who replaced Young against Jacksonville and lead them to a come back victory against the Jags and won the first 10 games in a row on the way to a 13-3 record and a first-round playoff loss.

There are still lots of questions surrounding Vince Young and everyone has their own, here are my 10 questions that I would ask Vince if I were to sit down with him.

No. 1) What exactly happened, in your opinion on the sidelines when it looked like you refused to re-enter the Jacksonville game?

No. 2) What was your mental state in the days after and leading up to the disappearance?

No. 3) When you arrived at Baptist Sports Park that night with Coach Fisher and the police were there, what was said both to you and by you?

No. 4) After all this, and without naming names what was the reaction of your teammates within the locker room the next day, not what they said to the media, but what and how they reacted personally towards you?

No. 5) The rumors of possible friction between you, some coaches and Kerry Collins, is there any truth to that, and if so where do those relationships stand right now entering the 2009 season?

No. 6)  In an article published by NFL.com  you were quoted as saying you thought about retiring from professional football after your first season stating and I quote, "I really thought long and hard about it.

"There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things."

However, you later recanted this stating you never considered quiting football and your remarks were blown out of proportion. Was there ever any truth to this, and if not how was it blown out of proportion?

No. 7) Without invading your privacy to much, what have you done both off and on the field to prepare yourself mentally for life in the NFL as you move forward?

No. 8) What have you been told by either (GM) Mike Reinfeldt or Jeff Fisher about what is expected of you as a member of this team and what will it take for you to regain the starters spot with the Titans?

No. 9) There has been speculation among the local and national media about your salary cap number in 2010, it has been said by multiple people that the team might be thinking about releasing you prior to that due date to save some money and reduce the amount it would count against the teams cap.

Has anyone said anything to you that would lead you to believe this is true, and if not what are your feelings about this possibility?

And finally.

No. 10) Where are you, Vince Young right now, mentally and physically as it pertains to your future in the NFL, either as a starter again, or a backup with the Tennessee Titans or possibly another franchise ?

That's my 10 questions if I could go 10 Rounds with Vince!
