Oh, Baby!: Glen Davis, the "Ticket Stub," Cashes in the Win
Glen "Big Baby" Davis is living his dream.
He won a championship in his first year in the Association along side his idol—the "Big Ticket," Kevin Garnett.
Davis quietly absorbed the lessons of the master—complete with using R-rated language. And he has been a devoted pupil.
During his first summer in Boston, Davis worked on his significant girth in preparation for the season. NBA TV televised his rookie workouts as part of an ongoing summer series. No matter—"Baby" still had miles of preparation to go before he was anointed with the power of "G."
Davis came into the league with his own sound bites. Always good for a quote, his effervescent personality landed him a blogging gig with The Boston Globe.
Davis had not even played his first game, and he had already become a media darling. Danny Ainge quickly put a stop to that—Davis had to make a name for himself first on the court.
In his first full season, Davis worked hard not just to make the roster, but to be part of the rotation. Davis could often be seen with Doc Rivers in his face, with Rivers telling him in no uncertain terms that he had to do his job.
Last year, Rivers kept a tight leash on his precocious rookie.
This year, Davis came into the season with a full year of tutelage from Garnett under his belt.
KG can be seen in Davis' ear every time he is on the bench. Pumping him up in no uncertain terms, reminding him what it is like to be part of the "ticket" fraternity.
When asked if he was trying to be KG, Davis said he was just the "Ticket Stub"—and he was glad to do the work required.
The self-proclaimed "Ticket Stub" is making a name for himself in the playoffs.
Game Four saw the culmination of his hard work, when he calmly drained a 17-foot game-winning jumper against Orlando to save Boston's season.
Davis averaged seven points and four rebounds in the regular season. In the playoffs, he's upped his totals to 16 points and six rebounds per game. Last night he finished the game with 21 points and 6 rebounds.
Davis won't make fans forget about KG, but he is reminding people how important it is to always have the "Ticket Stub."
