Poker Night at the Hockey Hall of Fame Was a Hit!

GoucheMay 9, 2009
Kerry Goulet and Michael Landsberg hosted a poker night at The Hockey Hall of Fame on Saturday night for Shoot for a Cure, and it was a hit!
Everyone was all in this night, and the list of celebrities was impressive: Keith Primeau, Chris Nowinski, Steve Thomas, Ron Ellis, Mike Pelyk, Jack Valiquette, Gary Leeman, Trevor Letowski, Lou Franceschetti, Ryan Vanden Bussche, Brian Muir Chris Kontos, Eddie Shack, Gareth Wheeler, Randy Thomas, Francios Landerville, Ron Fellows, and Wayne Cowley!

Shoot for a Cure is a charity organization that funds research for spinal cord and head injuries.

Michael Landsberg hosts the show Off the Record on the TSN channel, and Kerry is better known as “the Gouche."

The scripter of this missive (Momma Gouche) was also in attendance. The main event was a poker tournament with music supplied by Bryan Green and his fantastic band, and a VIP party outstandingly organized by Wayne Cowley of the Bottom Line Restaurant.

Refreshments were supplied and quickly disappeared. After that, the action moved to the Hockey Hall of Fame and the ambiance of the room was incredible!

There is no better place to hold a poker tournament than the Hockey Hall of Fame. The trophies, the memorabilia, and the aura: which is second to none and adds to the presence of former players from the National Hockey League.

The start of the tournament, for a great cause, was remarkable and electric. Chris Tessaro, the tournament director was very professional and secured the good people of Betfair Poker to be the title sponsor.

Joining Betfair Poker as sponsors were Wine Online.ca, Source for Sports, Shoeless Joes Restaurant, Aylesworth Barristers, and Solicitors, Pepsi, Frito Lay, Danier Leather, Lake of Muskoka Beer, Quagmaire Golf, Frozen Pond, Rain Spa, Mediconsult, the Hockey News, CP24, Off the Record, the Toronto Sun, the Fight Network, and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

As the night grew long and the players were eliminated for the chance to play at the last table in the Great Hall of the Hall of Fame, people started to move back up to The Bottom Line for the after party.

I heard a lot of Kenny Rogers' songs that night, “You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.”

The party went into the wee hours of the morning, and I stuck right in the middle of the group. It was a blast!

Everyone had a great time and many of the young attendees graciously complimented Momma Gouche (me) on her attire.

I saw a lot of smiles. And though the final tally is not known, the charity, Shoot For A Cure, definitely prospered.

Barry Munro stated, ”Thank you all for the great support. Our mission is long, and with your help, we will find a cure. Many thanks (viel vielen danke) to all of those who attended.”
