New Faces to Watch in the EPL

Nick AkermanJul 30, 2013

Which newly acquired Premier League stars will be worth special attention next season?

Unless you're a fan of Manchester United or Arsenal, it's likely you're desperate to see your club's recent arrival perform on the big stage. As we head into the 2013-14 season, there are plenty of individuals vying for your attention with memorable performances.

From bombing wingers to physical centre-backs, here's a handful of names to watch out for.

Jesus Navas, Manchester City

1 of 5

Jesus Navas has the potential to become the Premier League's deadliest winger.

Who Scored confirms Navas suffered an unproductive 2013-14 La Liga season, but the Spanish international will fit naturally into Manuel Pellegrini's side. His contribution of zero goals and only six assists in 37 appearances for Sevilla last season shouldn't deter the expectation of what Navas can bring to the Etihad.

His ridiculous pace and dribbling skills will put the fear of God into many left-backs. Also, Navas has a devastatingly accurate delivery, usually making the correct decision when attacking the edge of the opposition box.

With players such as Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic ahead of him, the 27-year-old's directness and willingness to commit defenders will see him become an instant Premier League favourite.

Gary Hooper, Norwich City

2 of 5

Gary Hooper must have shuddered with fear when he heard Celtic had accepted a £5 million bid for his services from QPR. Luckily for the Englishman, Norwich City jumped at the chance of landing the penalty-box predator on a three-year deal, as confirmed by the Express.

The powerful forward has a real mission on his hands. As reported by BBC Sport, Hooper wishes to play for England. With the 2014 World Cup looming and England's participation still in the balance, the forward could become a national hero.

Or he could do a Grant Holt: deserve a call-up one season, fail to receive it and be sold off to the Championship within a year.

Jores Okore, Aston Villa

3 of 5

At just 20 years old, Jores Okore represents one of the summer transfer window's shrewdest deals.

Paul Lambert has signed a no-nonsense defender who will add plenty of steel to Aston Villa's back four. Okore highlighted his talents in two excellent Champions League performances against Chelsea and was an exciting player to watch while competing for Nordsjaelland.

Okore isn't afraid to step out of defence and has a confident presence on the ball, although it's clear there is still plenty of room for improvement. The young Dane will benefit from playing alongside experienced individuals such as Ron Vlaar and has the potential to be a world beater within the next few years.

Gerard Deulofeu, Everton

4 of 5

Years from now, when Gerard Deulofeu is a world-class superstar, Everton fans will be able to say they witnessed the beginning of his top-flight career.

The 19-year-old Spaniard, on loan from Barcelona, is an immensely exciting and versatile forward. Blessed with pace, skill and extreme confidence, Deulofeu represents the future of Spanish football alongside Real Madrid's Jese Rodriguez.

Roberto Martinez will rotate the youngster during his Merseyside stay. Deulofeu needs to develop his physical game and must adapt to playing against the best every week, but his potential will be there for all to see. With a little bit of patience, the starlet can make the blue half of Merseyside rather happy this season.

Paulinho, Tottenham Hotspur

5 of 5

Paulinho is a typically astute investment for Andre Villas-Boas.

His energy, tackling ability and confidence on the ball were highlighted during the Confederations Cup, a tournament that ensured watching European fans got the chance to admire his talents for the first time. The Brazilian adds to an already excellent array of midfielders at White Hart Lane as AVB continues to develop strength in depth.

If Spurs manage to keep Gareth Bale, the sheer power and pace within this team is going to be difficult to handle. Alongside the likes of Sandro and Mousa Dembele, Paulinho slots in as yet another potential star. Throw in the fact he's often deadly in front of goal and the North London club have a real gem on their hands.
